What a horrible place. The room was fine although furnishings very tired, carpet stained and a uselessly weak shower. BUT the corridor was dark, dirty, tired, cramped, carpet disgusting. Whole place had a feel outside the bedoom door, of a 'doss house'. Had a terrible feel to it. Parking to the rear limited BUT did not feel a safe place to leave your car overnight. The lane at the rear of the building stank of over flowing garbage bins Can honestly overall say this is a horrible place . There are better options at a similar price in newcastle. The property looked and felt yuck.....was glad whem my stay ended...horrible

A very disappointing stay at The Dene. We travel a lot and we have never been asked to pay a damage disclaimer before? We were offered an alternative of £500 deposit and a £10 admin fee. We were told the £500 would be returned in 14 days. This was not mentioned in our original booking a few months ago and we understand that they are under new management but this was a payment we were not expecting! We had loads of emails asking to verify our details (passport or driving license) and asking for the damage disclaimer. When we arrived we were told breakfast was not available even though this was part of our original booking. We were told to go on the high street and buy something. The room was not clean. Then to top it all off we woke in the morning to yet another email asking us to leave by 09:30 or earlier. Not friendly and not welcoming. I would not recommend this place to anyone I liked.

Hi. I was to attend a Little Mix gig in Newcastle with my 9 yr old, and this was to be her first gig. We live in East Yorks (2.5 hrs away) and booked 2 rooms, for me, the wife and two kids at the OYO Dene hotel Newcastle, in June 21, 9 months before the gig date of April 22. 5 days before the gig, yes 5 days before! we received a Tel call to say they could not accommodate us, due to "circumstances beyond their control", which when pushed, they wouldn't expand on, so that left me with a mad scramble to try get hotel room(s) 5 days before our vist, which was the Easter bang holiday weekend! Everything was horrendously priced after. We managed to get an lovely Apartment hotel at Staybridge Suites for 3x the cost, which was lovely, but OYO can go to hell in future after this as it nearly ruined our daughter's gig and our short break! Look at the reviews for this company in Trustpilot and avoid like the plague!!! It looks like we avoided a horrible experience thankfully!

I don’t normally write reviews! Please, please don’t use this hotel unless you have a keen sense of adventure or are genuinely curious At £135 for a room for 3, the cost makes one shudder in light of what was to become. On arrival the car park round the back cleverly decorated with discarded kitchen oil drums is also a likely harbour for the larger of the four legged rodent, but do not let this deter you from the expedition on which you are about to embark. The sliding front door is a unique design that has to be manually operated from side to side to allow access with any amount of baggage. Decorated in stunning “mock Tudor “ scaffolding, which, it later turns out is the most amazing security device for any window you need to open (on our floor) for a variation in the inherent aroma. The reception along with the bar appears to be in a state of flux with the shutters for either not lifting once during the stay, opting for an unusual gent lurking in the foyer providing the keys to rooms. Not sure about the on-site dining facilities as it, very much like the reception and bar failed to make a showing until Sundays cornflake surprise. The lift - as mentioned by a previous reviewer is dated 1992 and I think the some of the newness has now worn off as the mechanicals appear to have tired slightly. My compatriots, having used it once, opted to use the fire exit stairway instead, for me, with a slightly gimp knee had to grit my teeth, but to be fair the ride was a sedate affair, I do think the wallpaper may have faded several shades again each time the journey was made. Throughout the hotel, there is a piquant aroma of the orient that I think may cling to every soft material taken into the premises for several more washes yet. And the finale, the room. Heating, worked in the bath room to the point of an H&S issue - a touch warm, in the room nothing to worry about there as radiators remained stone cold throughout. The water has a problem and I guess Michael has to walk down to the Tyne with a bucket from time to time to replenish the system as it appears to take an insane amount of time for the cistern to recharge, which is not so helpful with a three man room! Can’t be overly sure what the stains are on the floor and in the bath, but chose to not investigate any further for fear of that it may be the bodily fluids of one of the previous reviewers! The windows are sealed shut by said scaffolding, which means if the overpowering stench becomes too much you can do nothing further to escape but leave. We did - packed and out of the door by 8am. The place needs pulling down and start again! On the upside, it was nice to leave!
