Wir waren für eine Nacht im The Culpepers - sowohl zur Übernachtung wie auch im Restaurant. Alles in allem ein sehr guter Deal, die Zimmer sind zweckmäßig und sehr sauber, auch wenn man den Shabby Look erst auf den zweiten Blick als solchen erkennt - dann findet man ihn aber toll. DAs Bad ist schmal und klein, aber ebenfalls sehr sauber und zweckmäßig. Zimmer können ab 15 Uhr bezogen werden, spätestens aber 22 Uhr, wurde uns zumindest mitgeteilt. Die 5 Zimmer liegen im 2. Stock (nur Treppe), unseres lag zur Strassenseite, was kein Problem war, alles leise - auch die Kneipe im EG. Klimaanlage gibt es nicht, war bei unserem Aufenthalt aber kein Problem, obwohl es 27 Grad hatte. Das Personal ist okay, ab und zu wäre ein wenig mehr Lächeln sicher eine gute Idee - aber korrekt und hilfsbereit. Frühstück gab es morgens im ebenso schönen Schwesterhotel Brixton, 3 min. zu Fuß, Dort wählt man aus verschiedenen Vorschlägen von Granola bis zum Full English Breakfast, es gibt guten Kaffee. Personal sehr freundlich! Wir waren abends im Restaurant im 1. OG, Essen war kreativ und gut - kleine Karte von Vegan bis fleischig gute Auswahl, Das Culpeper liegt an einer belebten Straßenecke in Spitalfield, wenige Minuten von der Underground-Station Aldgate East entfernt und qualifiziert sich alleine schon damit als gute Basis für einen Londonaufenthalt. Ebenso weit (andere Richtung) liegen den Spitalfield Märkte.

Very fun place to stay above a pub. Refreshed our towels each day & free breakfast at their sister hotel 2 blocks away. Breakfast was SO good! They warn you that it can be loud into the evening and it was. But we wore ear plugs. Complimentary pint in the pub. A very fun out of the ordinary place to stay.

Despite the friendly staff our stay was awful. Clean but shabby room. Old mattress and pillows . Poor housekeeping. And the street noise 24/7 meant you needed the window and double glazing closed all night which created an airless stuffy space. So disturbed was our sleep we left after 2 nights even thought we’d booked and paid for four. Terrible

The "real" London With a central location in Whitecapel, the hotel is ideal for exploring London. The hotel is located above a pub and a (fantastic) restaurant and that is the main business. Therefore, it is necessary to enter the hotel yourself with a code before 12 noon. The hotel is located in an old building so expect worn stairs, patina, slightly crooked floors, etc. The rooms are nice and original. For example, we had a fireplace (that was bricked up) in our room. Charming. So if you don't want a standard hotel with nice straight hallways and chrome and glass, then the Culpeper is the hotel for you. In my opinion, we are 3-4 stars. Would I book Culpeper again? Yes, definitely.

The pictures on the Culpeper website do not reflect the room I was booked into. The bedding was faded and did not look clean when I arrived and I certainly did not feel inclined to sit on the bed or the dinghy and discoloured chair covering. The musty smell in the room and bathroom was overwhelming, even allowing for it being a hot day. The pictures on the website, which were clearly taken when the rooms were freshly decorated, do not represent the current tired look of the room I was shown. Whilst normal wear and tear is expected, there were small cracks in the wall that needed repair.
