Hotel Casa Da Calcada - Relais & Chateaux

Escribo para manifestar mi desagradable experiencia en el hotel de referencia. El día 27 de julio estuvimos, mi esposa y yo, cenando en el restaurante del hotel, galardonado con estrella Michelín, Largo do Paço y la enorme tardanza en el servicio supuso que estuviéramos cuatro horas cenando. No es que existiera justificación alguna para ello: habíamos reservado varias semanas antes y fuimos a cenar a la hora exacta que nos fue asignada a nuestra llegada al hotel. Además, en dicho restaurante, sólo cenamos 10 personas (5 mesas). A la mañana siguiente, nos quejamos de ello al director quien dijo que nos agradecía la información, que investigaría qué había pasado ya que no le parecía normal lo sucedido y nunca volvió a ponerse en contacto con nosotros para darnos una explicación al respecto. Sólo cuando, después de haber abandonado el hotel y, por supuesto, pagar todo lo que se nos había facturado, nos dijo que la demora (4 horas!!!) en el servicio se debía a “falta de concentración” de los empleados en sala y en cocina. Creo que la explicación se califica por si misma, sobran los comentarios … Por otra parte, teníamos delante de nuestra habitación superior de lujo, con vistas un bar/terraza que nos hizo imposible utilizar la nuestra e incluso disfrutar de la habitación debido al volumen de la música y a los continuos gritos y conversaciones justo debajo de nuestra habitación. En esta habitación se paga un alto precio precisamente por su terraza y su ubicación tranquila delante del río y con vistas. En ningún momento se nos avisó de que ese establecimiento vecino funcionaba por la noche con música de discoteca y dj, incluso después del supuesto toque de queda por el COVID. Nos quejamos y hablamos varias veces con recepción pero la persona que estaba encargada nos dijo que pararía a las 10:30 por las normas vigentes relativas al COVID cosa que no sucedió y continuó hasta que tuvimos que acostarnos con la música a todo volumen y sin poder utilizar nuestra terraza. En general, nos ha parecido que el hotel está mal gestionado con una carencia evidente de personal que se manifiesta en el restaurante, en la piscina donde nadie aparece hasta las 11:00 de la mañana, en la recepción donde los empleados que están allí con su mejor voluntad no están capacitados para resolver algunos problemas importantes que se plantean y desde luego, en el servicio de limpieza de las habitaciones. Nuestra habitación no quedo limpiada el segundo día hasta las tres de la tarde. Nos quejamos de que no estaba hecha al volver al hotel después de una mañana fuera haciendo una excursión y el Director nos respondió que se hacían antes las habitaciones de los nuevos huéspedes y las de los que estábamos allí alojados era normal que no se limpiaran hasta las tres de la tarde. Juzguen Vdes. mismos si es normal que suceda esto en un hotel de cinco estrellas. Por todo ello nos hemos sentido desatendidos. El personal ha hecho todo lo que en su mano estaba, pero era poco. 3e visite au débotté dans cette demeure bourgeoise qui sait si bien prendre soin de ses hôtes. Le service est à la fois attentionné, discret et rapide depuis l’accueil jusqu’au check-out. Tout y est très bon avec pour ne rien gâcher un excellent rapport qualité prix. Une référence!

Fabulous hotel in a gorgeous building and setting in the lovely town of Amarante. This hotel was excellent in every way and we enjoyed our beautiful room, the delicious breakfasts and lunch, drinks in the bar and out on the terrace as well as the lovely grounds around the pool area. It was too cool to swim but we really enjoyed relaxing by the pool in the sun with a lovely bottle of wine. Attentive and very helpful staff. Highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Because of a tight itinerary, we could stay here only one night, which is not enough time to appreciate this property. It occupies a strategic, central site in the town. Located in front of the Ponte de Sao Goncalo with the Sao Goncalo Church on the other side of the bridge, its yellow facade and walls are eye-catching. We were in room 202, a large executive room with huge bed, walk in closet, safe, slippers, bathrobes, sofa, and bidet. Every aspect oozed five-star. The 7:30 breakfast was to die for. Bravo. This hotel really lived up to its reputation. It’s elegant, wonderful staff, superb rooms (you must book a river view room), and you MUST EAT AT LARGO DO PALCO. Its a Michelin star restaurant, and It’s one of the main reasons we stayed there. We were astounded at the chefs creativity and the incredible flavors he was able to create with each course. AMAZING!!!! Go there for even one day like we did. You won’t be disappointed!!!

We had a delightful stay at this well appointed Relais Chateau hotel and we’re glad to get a table at their Michelin restaurant. The staff were all professional and hospitable. The only downside is departing back to the real world.

Casa da Calcada is one of the great hotels of the world. I do not exaggerate. We have been all over the world, North to South, East to West, in many years of traveling. Everything about the Casa da Calcada is outstanding. The location, the staff, the rooms, the restaurants. The staff were extraordinarily helpful. There are two restaurants, one with a Michelin star. Both are outstanding, simply magnificent. Our room overlooked the river and the city. Excellent view. It was very quiet. Everything worked perfectly, even the air conditioning dealing with 100+ F. All the staff were very helpful. They made tour recommendations for us which we followed and were very pleased with. They made a lunch reservation for us in a nearby restaurant which was fine. If we can go to one hotel again, this is it.

Run down at the heels; not up to five star standards. We just left the Intercontinental Porto today (which was amazing) and arrived to a very painfully smelly room (room 409) here at Casa Da Calcada. I couldn’t tell if it was bug spray, air freshener or old lady perfume but it burned my nose so much that we had to change rooms (and I have never before asked to change rooms but I didn’t want the headlines to read “American couple asphyxiates in room because too polite.”) If it was just the smell it would be one thing, but both the smelly room and the new room that they gave to us were painfully shabby. Carpet stained as other reviewers have noted. So instead of relaxing on our 7th night of vacation, I’m scrambling trying to find a suitable hotel to go to for tomorrow night because I’m not sure we can stay here one more night. I personally don’t like wearing my shoes in the room but I don’t want my feet to touch the floor. It’s too bad because the location is wonderful.

We visited this hotel for our friends’ birthday party over a weekend. The staff were friendly, fun and couldn’t do enough for us. The rooms were exquisite, the food superb and the location was idyllic. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you can, go there and treat yourself. You won’t regret it.
