斯考加爾飯店(Hotel Skogar)

We recently stayed at Hotel Skogar from Sept 12-14, 2022 and were sorely disappointed in the condition of the hotel and the amenities. Just a word of caution, they advertise a hot tub, sauna, and restaurant but when we were there none of these were open. We had to walk to Skogarfoss Hotel for dinner both nights. Additionally, the shower in our room had mold and was making us sick. The hot water smells terribly of sulfur. The breakfast was descent, room was clean. Easy walk to the waterfall.

The room was clean enough and spacious, although the water in the bathrooms had a strong smell. The check-in process was easy, although not clear as we were told somebody would be there, when in fact they had just left a key out on the counter and our room unlocked. The amenities advertised were not available. The hot tub was empty and filthy, and the sauna was under construction. The food was not particularly good, but available. This was not very good value for the expensive price paid for the room.

Rapport qualité prix nul. Chambre à 322€ La nuit pour deux adultes et un enfant . Mobilier spartiate et vieillot. Literie à revoir , insonorisation a revoir. Ce tarif n’est pas du tout adapté à la prestation et à l’établissement . La situation près de la cascade ne peut pas tout justifier et autoriser !

We were the only ones staying there. I guess it was off season. Good service, small rooms. Water tasted funny like fish, maybe due to off season and pipes not used as much. Sauna was under repair. There is a hot tub but not used. Breakfast was not fancy but good enough. Felt bad because they had to make breakfast for just the two of us. There is a restaurant but opens June 1st.

This hotel has gone seriously downhill with the current owner. My first suspicions were confirmed when we arrived to find ****s growing through the brick entryway. It had obviously been neglected for some time. Also: Cobwebs and spiders in the room. Hot tub covered in green mold. Nails and screws poking out of the wall above our bed where artwork once hung. Nothing nice about the dining room, no table cloths etc. Dinner mediocre at best (said his chef was off). Again just the one owner working. No staff. Coffee machine broken. Arrived at breakfast to find a couple of undercooked sausages and a few slices of bread, no yogurt, cheese, or other things one normally finds at an Icelandic breakfast buffet. This used to be a ligit 4 star boutique property.

The Pros: It is very close to the skogafoss waterfall and the check in process was easy. The cons: hot tub not working the night we checked in. The hot water in the bathroom's sink and shower smelled like rotten eggs (sulfur smell). It made us feel nauseous. They didnt give us an access key to the main door and one night we went to have dinner and came back around 11pm. The door was locked and we were in the rain for a little while until I knocked very loud on the door and a guy that stated that he is the owner showed up to open the door. I have never seen a hotel lock its door and leave people outside without a key. Breakfast: they will have some sausage, bacon and weird cooked eggs, some bread, ham & Cheese, juice and Yogurt. If it comes included with the reservation that is okay but otherwise its not worth paying extra for that.

The check in was okay. There a younger blond guy at the reception was nice and courteous. The issues we had: The hot tub was not working, The breakfast had very limited options (if it is included with your room fee is better then nothing - BUT I would not pay extra for that). The hot water smelled really bad - like rotten eggs and that made us nauseous. Additionally, they only gave us the room key, no key to the main door. We got to the hotel at 11pm and the door was locked. PS: It was pooring rain - luckily someone opened the door.
