Had a spa day and then dinner bed and breakfast in the hotel. The spa experience was very good. Pleasant hour in the spa which was quiet and we accessed all amenities easily. The water was however too cold for a spa. Lunch was very good quality, plentiful and accompanied by a glass of fizz. . Loved the teepee which was warm, had tea facilities and surrounded by beautiful views. I’m sure even better experience in spring/ summer. Trea**ent was most enjoyable. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. Special mention to Duncan who was extremely welcoming and helpful. Overall the spa visit would have been 5 star if the spa water had been warm. We followed the spa visit with a lovely walk in winter sunshine from the hotel to the Abbey. What a stunning location for a hotel. Checking in the hotel the lady on reception was very welcoming. She escorted us to our room and showed us around the hotel. The hotel has a country house feel but somehow it doesn’t gel. The art work doesn’t fit in and pieces of paper stuck on the walls advertising sales of art feels cheap. Rooms are quite small and feel cluttered. Toiletries are good quality and smell lovely, nice quality towels and comfortable beds. The rooms are subtly lit which gives a cosy feel but unfortunately made it very difficult for me to read my book. Overall a little disappointing. Dinner was disappointing. The restaurant is brightly lit and feels shabby. Absolutely no a**osphere. Starters were acceptable although the lettuce on the prawn cocktail looked like it had seen better days. Main course of prawns and salmon sticky noodles was very tasty but only one prawn! Cod with lentils bland. Lovely cheese board to finish. The food in my local pub is a higher standard. Service was ok but staff were very pleasant. The breakfast room is a real contrast to the dining room and feels much more plush. Breakfast was very good. Good choices on offer, very good quality and well cooked. Service was very good. A great end to a mediocre overall experience. Would I return? Yes for the location but definitely not for value for money.

A beautiful hotel and grounds with very comfortable rooms - spacious and beautifully furnished. The staff were very nice and moved us to a ground floor room as my husband is disabled. The food was exceptional, and I had the same meal twice for dinner because it was so scrumptious! The spa pool is lovely with hot jets and a whirlpool and lots of gym equipment. Altogether a great experience, and we look forward to returning to any of the Devonshire hotels.

We had a three night stay with another couple to celebrate 2 birthdays. The reception staff were welcoming and we were happy with the location of our room which was comfortable but the bathroom was tired and in need of refurbishment It was impossible to use the shower without soaking the floor.We ate in the brasserie on 2 occasions and in the Burlington restaurant on one. The food was of a high standard and in general the service at dinner was very good although towards the end of the tasting menu in the Burlington it was obvious that our waiter was in a rush to finish and get home. Our experience at breakfast left something to be desired. There appeared to be ample serving staff but service was extremely slow and somewhat chaotic with a wait of close to an hour for our cooked dishes and several reminders for coffee and tea. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the setting is beautiful with many walks close by. Would happily recommend it but would hope that others receive more attentive service at breakfast.

We’ve never visited the Devonshire even though we only live half an hour away so decided to go for afternoon tea. The Bolton Abbey area is undoubtedly beautiful and parking on arrival was plentiful. We were seated in the cocktail bar and served tea, Prosecco and the usual selection of sandwiches and cakes along with a sausage roll and croque monsieur. Everything was delicious ( personally I prefer more savouries than sweet) and we couldn’t eat the two scones we had each so took them home in a box provided! Service was great, friendly staff and very efficient. We had a walk through the hotel and all staff we encountered were welcoming and helpful. Looking to book an overnight stay as there are lovely walks from the hotel. It’s a gem in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and we’re looking forward to another visit soon.

What a super time we have had on our second visit to this hotel. The staff especially Warren and Attila can’t do enough for you with their superb service. The Burlington is a very worthy restaurant and is comparable to any famous chef’s cuisine, a fusion of delicious flavours and some extra surprises. We like The Artist room with its numerous pictures. First time here experiencing an afternoon tea treat. Such a lovely experience, delicious food, drinks and very friendly and attentive staff. Amazing hotel and beautiful grounds, we also had a walk along the river to Bolton Abbey. Highly recommended, would love to come back for a hotel stay next!

Went for a 2 day break we had been in 2019 it was lovely then but this time totally brilliant, we had a meal in the Brasserie and looked after by Rafal and Harry (18th birthday)food was beautiful, in the Spa which we should of used it more Duncan was so helpful, reception young lady and gentleman were very helpful and professional we couldn’t of asked for better service. The hotel is total value for money beautiful like we remembered in a perfect location we were given a free car park voucher for Bolton Abbey lots of walks around the grounds lovely in winter but must be fantastic in summer. For a lovely break the hotel has stunning lounges and one for dogs to sit with you, restaurants are very well looked after.

Visit with friends on 23rd March as a treat However most disappointing evening meal very poor Ordered lamb got two minute lamb chops also ordered steak minute portion and not cooked as requested and left Worst meal had for a long time regular visitor to other chats worth hotels which we love Made a comment but staff not interested in the restaurant or in the following morning on reception Filled in the questionnaire sent about visit and did not have the decency to reply Dreadful service Room ok location excellent What has happened to this magnificent hotel when can’t even bother to contact or deal with a complaint Breakfast was fine not exceptional
