聖邁克爾莊園飯店 - 聖奧爾本斯(St Michael's Manor Hotel - St Albans)

The bed was really hard, pillows were awful and the bedding made us both itch possibly from something they use to clean the sheets. There was no tea bags ,milk or sugar in the room. The breakfast was cold and missing things that were on the menu and the coffee was terrible Was a real let down had the worst nights sleep i've ever had and there was a lack of air in the Suite Definitely not worth the £328 I paid

For surroundings but unfortunately, the whole experience was let down by Shambolic Service. We attended a private function with pre ordered dinner. We Were greeted with a glass of fizz served by our hosts After mingling a short time, we were asked to be seated. After sitting At our tables for some time. A member of staff came out with a. tray of canopies. Which should have been served with our meet and greet before we sat at our tables. We then sat and chatted. For an hour. Without any drinks. Not. Even water. After an hour. Staff came round with water. We Eventually got our starter but still drinks Once the starters had been served and we’d already started eating a member of staff came round with wine for the table. We then had to wait almost another hour. for our main course and Although this was a pre booked event our arrival seemed to be a complete surprise for the staff. They were totally unprepared completely shambolic no one took responsibility for organizations It was such a disappoin**ent, as we were guest, we felt we could not complain at the time as we did not want to upset our most generous hosts

Very disappointing afternoon tea. Booked for a family birthday and sat in a big, soulless function-type room where staff were doing a food photo shoot in the corner during tea service. Service was dreadful, took ages to get orders taken, drinks were served incorrectly, service was slow and table wasn't cleared throughout the time we were there. Stale bread for the sandwiches, plates weren't changed in between savoury and sweet food. Scones were hard and unappealing. Cakes shoved on the top layer of the cake stand with no care. They knew it was to celebrate a birthday yet did nothing to mark the occasion for us. For the price there are far superior places nearby. Emailed and spoke to the hotel to complain directly after and they have ignored follow up emails - seemingly they don't care about feedback or poor reviews as their offer to rectify the situation was not acceptable.

I have been to this hotel twice before and loved it! It was very clean and the staff could not do enough to help! I felt the price reflected not only the hotel but the staff and I was happy to pay a high rate for the room. That being said I booked again to go before Chris**as and I was shocked to see how much the hotel has declined. I was both sad and disappointed. The staff tried their best, but they were not the same calibre of professionalism like before, but friendly and polite. The lounge was beautiful which was great and the staff interacting with my 15 week old was lovely to see. There was no longer a person to open the door which was a shame and when I made a compliant to the night staff they handled it best that they could, but not good enough. The breakfast was awful. Dry and stale. The curtains were frayed and the paint on the ceiling was peeling, the carpet was dirty and stained and the windows were not air tight so rather breezy. The extractor fan didn't work which meant my partner came out of the shower in a plume of steam and looked like a lobster. The whole room was generally very tired looking. In a nutshell, what a shame. :(

Went here for a birthday party - so can't give an opinion on it as a place to stay. The hotel itself and its beautiful surroundings have been praised already by other contributors. Service was superb - efficient and cheerful. I 'd give St. Michael's a top rating for their staff. Food was also very pleasurable - my swordfish and potatoes were most enjoyable - and a very ample chessboard to conclude. Only drawback was limited air conditioning on a very hot day. This did crimp our pleasure.

My husband and I were so looking forward to visiting this hotel with friends for a celebratory dinner. Whilst making the table reservation I was advised that they would need to take a deposit but they did not ring to do this, nor did they send me the menu for that week. So I had to make contact again to check that we did indeed have a dinner reservation. We had to summon a waiter to take our dinner order. The waitress arrived with 5 warm rolls for 8 people! When we were eventually all served with rolls we discovered that the table had been set with only 6 pats of individual butter - yet again call the waiter. At no point were we shown the wine list so I just ordered what our friends like! We had one serving of water and wine and drinks service did not resume until after we had eaten our main course. There were 4 waiters/waitresses on duty and the restaurant was only 1/3rd full so no reason for the poor service. Our dinner and service were not worthy of a 4 star hotel. Vegetables were a rarity on the menu! The hotel website indicates that they are holding a Fawlty Towers evening with Actors but attendees will also be able to sample the full Fawlty Towers waiting/dining experience most evenings. The finale was the waiter walking across the restaurant with a wafer thin slice of dessert in which was placed a gradually slumping lit birthday candle!!! This perfectly summed up the service. The hotel has beautiful grounds and it is such a shame that it is so badly managed. Needless to say we will not be returning but we have shared the experience with our group of friends.

We stayed at the hotel last week as our wedding was taking place there. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly - thanks especially to Tara for making what could have been a very stressful time really enjoyable . Our thanks go out to everyone from the lovely lady at breakfast to Nathan and the whole team. The whole experience was even better than we could have imagined , from the ceremony and drinks in the beautiful grounds, the wonderful meal and the evening reception in the restaurant with buffet and dancing. If you are looking to hold a wedding or special event, or just stay somewhere that feels a bit more special than a chain hotel I would throughly recommend St Michaels Manor in St Albans

Took a friend for her birthday to this hotel for afternoon tea - my only comment is that this was outstanding in every way - service, value for money, quality of food, ambience. Thank you to the staff - you were all brilliant. An added bonus is that you can have more if you wish.

Lovely house and grounds. The lakeside sitting area was very relaxing and peaceful. The room was nice. there was a hot pot for water and an assor**ent of teas and coffees. Breakfast was generous and much more than a simple continental breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
