Speechless is what I am as there are truly no words to describe our three days at Uma Paro under the gentle and delightful watch of James Low who, although the General Manager, is so much more than that. He is the essence of the hotel and has been so for almost 10 years. And then there is Dorji, his right hand person, who epitomizes the warm embrace of her country. My wife and I thought we were only going to Bhutan because of the Tiger’s Nest. OMG, we couldn’t be more wrong. The Tiger’s Nest is only one part of a transformative package. Coupled with our guide, Subash and driver Dawa, our time spent in the country and at Uma Paro and Uma Punakha will hopefully be repeated soon with more of our friends who wondered why the H we were going in the first place. Although we did not meet the Head Chef who, like James, also oversees Uma’s sister property (Uma Punakha), she is in a class of her own. As you can tell, I believe the people of Uma Paro, the property itself, and the execution of the vision are without peer and I say this after being more than an incidental traveller. Good on everyone involved. It’s hard to believe that a mildly jaded and disappointed traveller like myself could be so transfixed by everything - every experience, every embrace, every taste, every breath of air that Bhutan and the Uma Paro hotels in Paro & Punakha offer. I return to my tag line ….. I am humbled.
