How I loved this hotel. If I had to dream up a hotel of my dreams, it would look a lot like this. My only regret is that I didn't manage to get to the spa (I only had one night here). My first experience of the hotel was the doorman, helping me instantly. The doormen, the front-desk staff, the Magritte staff, the room-service staff, the Colony restaurant staff, and everyone else at the hotel were all so helpful and welcoming. There had been a problem with my reservation at first. I had a prepaid reservation, which I booked with my airline's website. However, their website sent the reservation and payment to the Beaumont Hexham (this is the airline's faulty website, nothing to do with the hotel at all, who didn't make any error--hopefully the airline has fixed it by now). So when I arrived, the hotel staff believed I had been scammed. They said it was the second time this had happened to a guest. They asked if I had contact information, and I did. The wonderful thing, though, is how attentively they all helped me out. They kindly showed me to the Magritte bar, gave me a table, invited me to make my phone calls to settle the matter, and offered me pastries (I turned that down, because I knew I'd be fattening myself up enough on this trip, which I gladly did with the Beaumont's delicious food later--more on that in a bit). One of the front-desk staff trotted back and forth with updates about the booking website calling them, and offered a solution, which was to book me a room and secure it with my payment, and then refund the payment once the website came through and fixed the problem. This worked everything out well once the website did so. I was very grateful for the staff's energetic assistance to help guide me through this problem, which took a good hour or so to resolve. I felt the staff here was very kind and helpful. They are a great asset to the hotel. The room was perfectly beautiful. Dark hardwood furnishings, a beautiful view of the little square outside, a very comfortable bed, and a large television, as well as all the other things you'd expect, such as a well-appointed bathroom, an in-room safe, and all the "mod cons," as the British say. And the food! I loved the Colony restaurant's breakfast so much. Of all the meals I had in my several days in London, it's this one that my mind keeps drifting back to. I had porridge and their spectacular duck-egg hash, with duck eggs over medium, perfectly crisp (yet tender on the inside) potatoes, smoked haddock, and sauce. (You can also get the duck-egg hash with other things besides haddock, like mushrooms.) Everything in it just melted together perfectly as I ate it. The haddock is one of England's best-tasting fish, in my opinion, and it all formed a perfect savory start to the day. I had to inform the management that this dish almost made me want to book another trip to London straightaway! Finally, of course, the location in Mayfair is perfect, close to Hyde Park, to theatre, to grea
