Although it is relatively far from most of Edinburgh’s main tourist attractions (about a 30-minute walk on average), it only takes about 10 minutes to walk to Calton Hill. There is also a shopping centre called St James Quarter about a 5-minute walk away, where you can find almost everything you need, as well as an affordable supermarket (Tesco) within the same walking distance. In addition, if you are joining a Rabbie’s Tour like I did (I joined the Isle of Skye tour), the hotel is very close to the departure point (Edinburgh Bus Station), only about a 3-minute walk away. The only small downside was that my room was on the basement level and there was no elevator, which made check-in and check-out a bit challenging. The staff did ask if I needed help carrying my luggage, but since my suitcase was quite heavy, I felt a bit bad asking. You might want to take their offer if needed. (Additional note: Across from Tesco, you can also find the Sherlock Holmes statue and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s birthplace, which is a nice surprise for fans.)
