Es gibt viele komfortable Hotels, aber hier habe ich mich von der ersten Sekunde an wohl gefühlt. Einzelzimmer sind selten ansprechend, aber in diesem Hotel ist es wunderschön. Breites Bett mit extra-langer Bettdecke, Kühlschrank, Kaffee-Ecke, viele warme Lichtquellen, Safe. Alles in gedeckten, beruhigenden Farben. Das Badezimmer hat eine große Dusche mit anständigem Wasserdruck. Zimmer zwar relativ klein, aber überhaupt nicht eng. Das Restaurant bietet eine kleine Auswahl an Speisen. Das Frühstücksbuffet lässt keine Wünsche offen. Alle Mitarbeiter durchgehend freundlich und sehr aufmerksam. Auch die Lage hat mir gut gefallen.

During recent storms, Deutsche Bahn rerouted and cancelled my train which left me stranded in Hannover unexpectedly. I quickly booked the first Marriott property I could find on the app because I needed a last minute room guaranteed late at night. When I arrived at checkin, Inga Zarzycki welcomed me after a long and frustrating day of travel. She answered all of my questions, and even provided me a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful suite because of my Platinum status. I was also informed that I had the minibar and breakfast included and could choose between a welcome gift or bonus points. The suite itself was beautiful! It felt like a small apartment. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was also great, with a big tub. I am 6’4” so it was a nice surprise to be able to soak in the tub after a terrible travel day. The following morning after a hearty breakfast, I spoke with Olga Schmidt at the front desk and explained I was going to go to the train station and try to get home to Berlin, but that I might need to extend my stay for another night. I asked her to hold my room and not send housekeeping, just in case. She kindly agreed. After a terrible experience at the train station, I returned to the hotel disappointed that all trains were cancelled again and I was stranded for another day. Olga welcomed me back with a cappuccino and some candy and suggested I check out the sauna and fitness center to relax. The sauna is beautiful and had a roof top terrace, perfect for cooling off. Shortly after this, I learned that my friend was driving from Berlin to pick me up and take me home, and that I would not need to stay an extra night. When I explained my situation to Olga, she informed me that I could have a VERY late checkout and would not be charged an additional night for the room. This is top notch customer service! She totally understood my situation and made every effort to accommodate my ever changing needs. When I finally went to checkout, I was happy to see Inga again. Olga had already updated her and it was an easy checkout experience. Both Inga and Olga are fantastic representatives of excellent customer service and I truly appreciate their help and consideration during an otherwise stressful travel experience. If I am ever in Hannover again, this will be my first choice of hotel because of the level of service I received.

Exterior appearance is dated. Only when I was in room noticed I had been “charged” an EXTRA 50€ per night on the credit card which they described to me as being on an EU initiative. I do not like this practice happening WITHOUT MY CONSENT and that it was not even explained to me at Check in. Had to go downstairs to get TV remote replaced only to go back down later that night because that one was not working either. (btw remote in Hamburg was individually wrapped – here it came with a small pack of hygienic wraps – so much for Covid cleaning). Duty Receptionist/Manager came up and made me feel inferior because it worked for her. Then there is the safe that works when it wants to. I didn’t bother mentioning that for fear of being told off again. Internet – only allowed two of my three devices and it had to be reconfigured every day of my stay. Staying in the Hamburg Courtyard I had none of these problems. Good large room with my lake view being excellent (despite the torn mosquito netting on the opening window). (I fully appreciate requests cannot always be met but the hotel was not full and they consider 3rd of 5 floors as high). Furniture and carpeting very dated. The electric switches had a mind of their own. Excellent bathroom very hot water, good towels. Bed very comfortable with very good assortment of pillows. Easy chair and table NOT good for working on (unlike Hamburg). Clearly resting on its laurels with proximity of Arena next door and the lakeside location. Personally I would not recommend this hotel purely on the basis that it seems to be living in the past. It needs a lot of care and money spending on it. Apparently this is a “franchise” hotel – it creates a bad impression of what Courtyard can do (see my Hamburg review).

I stayed one weeknight at the Radisson Blu Hannover, receiving no platinum upgrade or recognition of status. I fear this is becoming the norm as I have resumed routine travel and there’s a fight at check-in most every time to get staff to acknowledge status. I trade nights of my life each year to earn status only to have it ignored by the staff. I understand and appreciate that the last several years of travel have been made difficult, but now it seems that everyone in the industry—car hire, hotel, air travel—are trying to make all their money back at one time. It shines through in the dismissive way that staff are treating customers. I’ve stayed at the hotel more than 20 times since 2019, including in 2020 during the pandemic, and returned in 2022. The hotel is the same as my last trips, except less caring in its approach.
