Way too noisy to make for a pleasant stay There were four of us in 2 separate rooms - we all had a terrible night's (rather lack of) sleep. A shame, because it's an attractive building inside & out; really clean; in a great location and (ironically) really comfy beds and lovely pillows and linen. But it is simply way too noisy to be viable as somewhere charging people to sleep. We arrived to the sound of construction noise - in fairness we had been pre-warned about renovations and makes sense to do such work out of season, but maybe not late on a Saturday afternoon. We were all woken up at 3.00 AM by screaming female voices. I assume guests after a good night out and get you can't control your guests' behaviour - but the screaming continued for half an hour, during which time hotel staff should have stepped in to tell them to show some respect to other guests and shut up. Then we were woken again by blaring music just after 6.00 AM. On phoning reception to point this out, we were told they know and it's the staff in the restaurant, who like to play music. It's terrible that it took guests to tell the hotel to tell their staff not to play blaring music at six in the morning. Some of the noise that blighted our stay was out of the hotel's control - but this was totally on them. Quite simply, the hotel staff wanted to listen to blaring music at six in the morning, without any care at all for paying guests, trying to sleep. This is inexcusable and shows utter contempt towards paying guests. The doors need better sound dampers and/or people who care about closing them as silently as possible - most of the slamming doors were early morning, so again I suspect staff not caring at all about the guest experience. And dogs constantly barking from very early morning, in between being woken by screaming and woken by music. This noise absolutely not in the hotel's control - but just added to the general cacophony and resulting sleep deprivation. In summary then not a hotel to book if you want a night's sleep, which is why you book a hotel. Mentioned to reception on check out, but got the sense they didn't care, as money already banked. And that's the really bad/sad part of this. A shame - could be lovely with a bit of consideration, care and a few adaptations.
This is probably the best guest house you will ever stay in .. It just excels at well . Everything.. The rooms are extremely spacious.. with great sleep quality.. huge walk in showers .. Terrific freshly cooked breakfasts .. And then there are the most amazing staff.. Billy and Lovemore .. I’m thinking of changing my name buddy.. we’re just there when needed. Thank you X It’s location is ideal too as just a five minute walk to the main road full of restaurants/bars etc. Steve .. I wish you and your lovely wife all the best and good luck for the future.. Not that you need it as Le Petit Paris is stunning and I,m thinking now how lucky you had availability on our dates. Comes very highly recommended. My advice would be book early .. not many rooms here .. Enjoy !
The most beatyfull setting. Lovely spacius rooms and only 5 of them. Very attentive staff, makes you feel at home. Lovely breakfast a la carte made to order. Loved the honesty bar. Loved the way you are greeted whem you com back or go to the wineestate, like they were waiting for you. This is truely a hidden gem that you must experience.
We had 2 apartments which were both excellent. We arrived mid morning and they really helped us out with an early check in. The position is perfect, only a few minutes walk to everything. Apartments are very spacious and clean. Franschhoek is a beautiful place to visit, we felt very safe, and I would highly recommend staying here.
What an absolute terrible stay at theLab. A so called high tech guest house but absolutely nothing worked. Our room had the following that failed to work on the first night: Blinds, TV, Shower. We reported the issues first thing after the first evening, as nothing could be done the first night and then after 3 hours of staff and technicians walking in and out of the room to try sort the issue out, we were told that we had to be moved to their alternative guest house around the corner. The Lab Blue was somewhat sub par to what the Lab was supposed to be and although the Lab Blue room was sufficient for the second night to sleep, we found that the shower didn't work properly in the new room, there was no tea and coffee in the new guest house and we had to walk back to the original guest house to get the breakfast and amenities we had paid for. We were a group of 6 couples that were all moved due to issues, some even had plumbing issues. An overall terrible experience. Shelton, the supervisor on duty tried his best, but he had no authority to make proper decisions and we weren't even compensated for the poor experience in the rooms and the fact that we paid for premium rooms but were ”downgraded”.
