If you love historic, Victorian buildings, you will love this one. It is very Sherlock Holmes meets Fawlty Towers. The rooms are high ceilinged with cornices and there is an amazing staircase to get to your room. Great stay despite there being only 6 tv channels, internet going on and off and rooms in need of updating.

The staff at this hotel were incredibly friendly, but unfortunately there is no way that this is a three star hotel incredibly rundown with poor heating which is not appreciated in an Edinburgh winter. The location is very nice and easy walk from Haymarket but overall this hotel misses the mark.

Het hotel staat in een mooie wijk van Edinburgh op loopafstand van Haymarket station. Het hotel is bijna 100 jaar oud. Dit is duidelijk te zien aan de staat van het hotel. In mijn opinie heeft het hotel dringend behoefte aan een renovatie. De kamers zien er als 1e indruk netjes uit. Het beddengoed en handdoeken zijn schoon en fris. De badkamer is oud, vieze kitranden, de douchedeur zat los, de afvoer liep slecht door en er zat een groot gat achter de wc. Ik was daar met mijn twee zonen voor wen speciale gelegenheid. Wat wij echt een probleem vonden waren de bedden. Het bankbed was vreselijk om op te slapen en op het 2 persoonsbed voelde je de springveren in je rug. Wij hebben in de 3 nachten dat we daar waren helaas zeer slecht geslapen. Het ontbijt was goed en genoeg variatie. De mannen die in de ochtend in de ontbijtzaal waren, deden hun best om iedereen van dienst te zijn. Bedankt hiervoor. Als je geen bezwaar hebt tegen slechte bedden en logeren in een oud hotel ga er naar toe. Wij gaan in elk geval niet meer als wij een volgende keer naar Edinburgh gaan.

Great walkable & safe area. Hotel has great character & fairly helpful front desk staff, especially Andrew. Walkable to city center. We had a large queen room on the 3rd floor, w/ nice desk, mirror area outside bathroom, & newer sectional couch. Unfortunately we couldnt get anything on the TV, not even local news. The bed was comfortable, but the carpet was old, stained & needs replacing; the bathroom was in great need of a new caulk job around shower, floor & baseboards as it was discolored & did not appear clean. The large antique wardrobe in bedroom was dusty.

The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, knowledgeable of the local area. Easily walkable to Princes Street but in a very quiet area this hotel is ideal. The rooms are large and spacious as befits a listed building. We'll definitely be back.

We stayed for one night, the bed was comfortable and the location is good! Close to all restaurants, shops and grain station. Only downside was all the stairs!

The hotel is really handy for location and about a ten minute walk. Parking is scarce around the streets and expensive so a park and ride might be the better option. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Decor is a little dated but to be honest, we were just using the room to sleep and spent the majority of our time out so it doesn't matter
