I had high hopes for this hotel, the marketing of it certainly sold a unique Berlin experience. The hotel has a few cool quirks to it, with some themed rooms and clever art about the place. It’s also in a great location in central Mitte. …that is the beginning and end of what this hotel has going for it. The check in experience is like amateur hour. They are trying to be innovative by asking guests to use an iPad to check in, but this is all whilst a too-cool-to-help looking staff member sits opposite you at the table looking bored as they wait for you to navigate the German keyboard. Once you’ve overcome that hurdle after a long flight, then comes the guess-work... No hotel tour, no instructions on how to get to our room, no overview of the facilities or information about when breakfast starts and ends. I did notice that when another couple asked about dinner reservation suggestions, they were very helpful and have clearly have done the work digitally, but there isn’t a lot of human-led customer service transcending the digital-physical world. It’s a self serve situation. As others have said, the rooms are basic. No amenities, and our room had a shower fan with dodgy wiring which meant it only turns off when it feels like it. Night 1 was slept with the shower fan running all night as there was no way to turn it off. The toilet also had an annoying loud click sound constantly when the light was on, like a faucet trying to run without water. The “rooftop bar” as they have described it is actually a roof top terrace (which is nice) with a sign that says to contact reception to order your drinks. There is one lift to service the entire property, this includes housekeeping. On one day we were waiting for the lift with the housekeeping staff and their linen trolleys. Whilst we did arrive a few moments after the housekeeping staff ordered the lift, they still pushed ahead of us, holding the lift to fill it with their linen trolleys and again when they got to their destination. As I said earlier, customer service isn’t on the cards at this hotel. All in all, it was a clean room with a bed, reasonably well sound proofed from the road outside, and well located. That’s it.
