We made two mistakes, the first was heading into central Michigan without a reservation & the second mistake was staying at the Budget Inn of Bay City. The Midland, Saginaw & Ann Arbor hotels were completely booked solid on line. We found virtually the only vacancy in the region. The price was equivalent to nice budget hotels. Our first impression walking into room 227 was terrible! The room wreaked and was aesthetically a disaster; cheap rubber baseboard coming off the walls, holes in the wall, pillows with cases that were either dirty or so badly worn that they appeared dirty. The bathroom was horrendous, the sink had cigarette burns and was filthy. The toilet had “crud” on the seat. The bowl was dirty. The light switches were discolored and broken. The refrigerator was dirty, rusty & gross. I am not nitpicking, the only decent thing in the room was the tv. There is a no refund policy and our only alternative was sleeping in our small pickup truck at a rest area which was very very tempting. If you judge a book by its cover then the rooms would’ve been much nicer, the outside is nowhere near as dumpy as the rooms so it’s easy to be lured in. Don’t be. This is by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, ever!
