the stay was decent. What stands out from all the similar properties is really really really good bed (double bed turned out to more of a superking), nice size tv (50+ inch), sockets with USB are a bonus. interior design is subjective to taste but its not my priority at this price. I guess one can highlight fresh furniture.
Bathroom: Clean shower, standard number of towels and shower mat, hair drier, heated towel rack, shampoo/soap/body lotion and soap bar.
Waiting staff was very nice and helpful.
Breakfast: the breakfast is usual full Scottish breakfast variety buffet, (fried eggs, black pudding, hashbrowns, scones, sausages, bacon, beans) with plenty condiments available as well as 3 types of toast, couple of cheeses and hams, fruit salad, yoghurts, various sweet pastries. Full set of teas, jams honeys etc, but coffee could be a little better, but again cannot complaint at price.
The hotel it is definitely underrated. While some things around hotel are a little flimzy, dusty, it is very decent value. it all fades away when you realise how nice it is to have a fresh large bed and that it is basically minutes away from ferry terminal. Great views are come as a big bonus.
Note for parking: very limited, but you can park at council carpark not far away at reasonable cost.
Beautiful building overlooking the river and mountains
Room was excellent with table and chairs to enjoy the view
Breakfast was very good excellent choice of food and hot which is not always the case with buffet breakfasts so this was a real bonus
Lovely friendly staff who you could easily converse with and have a laugh
Have stayed here often and the people who run it now are the best

The large bed was comfortable. There was also a large guest sitting room with splendid views of Campbeltown. Now the problems: a kettle whose nearest power socket meant it had to be put on floor or nearby chair to use, a bed side lamp that didn't work, a bed side lamp with a bulb that could power a lighthouse, a bathroom door hinge that could feature in a horror film given its creakes and groans, wobbly sink taps, loose toilet seat. No guest television in bedroom nor sitting room. The breakfast was a surreal experience, one entered a large room with excellent views to find a mat, knife and fork, on a table, for each guest in a line opposite a window with great view.. No juice, cereals, fruit, toast etc offered nor supplied. After too long a wait in the room with loud music playing the host offered a hot drink, a weak milky tea arrived after more minutes in a chipped mug. After another 5 or so minutes the well apportioned, tasty, breakfast was plonked down in front of us, we ate and left with loud music still playing and little interaction with the host. This establishment has made our infrequently used 'Do not visit again' list.

I cancelled on Trip.com and the message said that they'd contacted the hotel to confirm if it was ok to cancel FOC. According to trip.com, no response was forthcoming so my booking was not cancelled. My booking has since been ”completed”. When I contacted the hotel the following day to ask why they had not approved the cancellation, they said trip.com had simply asked for info, not to approve cancellation. Who is lying?
Suffice to say, I will not use trip.com again and have decided to stay elsewhere in Oban.
HHeong Siew YinIt is very centrally located with Tesco, M n S big supermarkets just round the corner 5 minutes walk away. Some Car park spaces in front good for free parking after 6 pm to 9 am. For cheapest whole day parking, 7.50 pound can be found near the ferry pier, about 7 mins walk from hotel. Easy access to all restaurants.
Reception is within the bar in Ranald Hotel with manned staff until 11pm.
Cons in room, water shower not consistent in temperature, no washing machine and room lightings can feel too dark. But maybe a lot of lightings in that area are like that…
But all in all will recommend. Comfortable.
PPHYO PHYO WAI YANG YINGThis is very small botique hotel, didn't look impressive front the entrance outside hotel. The moment we went in, it is really cozy & we were greeted by very warming in house manager & booked dinner table as well. We enjoyed their breakfast and as well as dinner, very good quality. Our concern is this hotel doesn't have lift.
