Fairfield Inn & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown

The staff was okay, not really friendly, but you just happy someone was working. The room was very outdated. The sheets had stains, the wallpaper in the room and the bathroom was peeling off. There are 2 homeless tent cities right outside the hotel, so you don't feel to safe when you go outside to wait for your car or if you wanted to walk over to the Station District. For the price you are paying a night it should be a top notch hotel and its anything but that. Also if anyone does stay, don't forget to add an additonal $38 a night for valet service otherwise you are walking 2 blocks to the garage where it's $36 a night! WAY OVERPRICED!

The room smelled like urine as soon as we went in. We debated on asking for another room. The room was much smaller than a typical hotel room but the bathroom was very large and had a very nice view of the bridges! I didn’t do my research well enough as I booked this hotel based on map location and other reviews. The parking garage is down the block and around the corner, which is fine but they charge an extra $28 for unlimited access parking. We walked down the ***** quite a few blocks to a restaurant and walking back at night did not feel safe in this area! Check in was easy and desk staff was very nice. We slept in and missed breakfast so I can’t comment on what the free breakfast looked like. Overall, I think you’re paying to have a pretty view but otherwise I would definitely look into booking something else for the cost.

The hotel is conveniently located to downtown, but the area is obviously affected by urban problems. Rooms are fairly basic but adequate. The breakfast menu was a limited one, and for several days during my stay many items were unavailable (no eggs other than hard-boiled, no waffles, etc.) The desk staff was not especially helpful or friendly, but check-in and check-out proceeded smoothy. However, on the penultimate day of my five-night stay, I was confronted by an apparent employee at the hotel after I had returned in the late afternoon and was obtaining a coffee from the complimentary coffee bar. This individual aggressively and rudely demanded to know my room number and name, claiming that “several people” had told him they had seem ne entering and leaving the hotel over a period of days. This was of course correct, because every day I left the hotel in the morning and returned in the late afternoon (and on only one day did I enter and leave more than once, which in any event I was perfectly entitled to do). There was nothing in my entering and leaving, nor in my dress and demeanour, that could have prompted such a confrontational encounter, and indeed, this individual did not suggest otherwise – his only observation was that I had been seen leaving and entering the hotel over a period of days (which of course I would be expected to do after having made a prepaid five-night reservation).
