We stayed 3 days here after another more upmarket stay elsewhere for my birthday. Wells is an easy walk and very picturesque. We had breakfast here which was well presented and prepared. Poached eggs were lovely, thanks to the chef. Reception were very pleasant, the room and common areas clean and neat. The sleep experience was not particularly good as the air conditioning does not go lower than 19C and I suspect never achieved that, but an overly warm sleeping environment is not what led me to give 3 stars to this stay. No, I inadvertently left a bag, containing all my laundry from 3 days stay in Wells, and 2 nights at the Crowne Plaza elsewhere, on a hook behind the bathroom door. I tried to contact the number for reception all day after checkout when I realised, about 200 miles away. When I got through the following day I was advised I would be called back. After more calls, and 3 days later the bag has not been recovered and as I had overheard during my second contact that the person who cleaned my room “tends to throw left items in the bin” I have now given up any hope of recovering the £250+ worth of clothing this contained. This is not Premier Inn policy or training. Premier Inn Customer Support advise I contact the police and tgen swiftly hung up on me. So whatever you do, do not leave anything to chance, take everything with you, and look behind the bathroom door.
