Long story short, we booked a 3 night stay at Truckee Donner Lodge. A few days before the trip, the national weather service issued a no-travel recommendation for the Sierras. When the warning was issued we tried to call the hotel to see our options. The reservation was "non-refundable", but hoped there was something they could do as the circumstances were extreme. We tried to call the hotel 10+ times, but no-one answered the phone.
We did end up trying to drive to the hotel, but the I-80 was closed and it was impossible to get there.
Having called 20+ times with no answer and sent emails to two different email addresses, we never heard back from the hotel. The only communication we got was the charge on our credit card for all 3 nights, and an automated email with the following message: "It was our pleasure having you as a guest at the Truckee Donner Lodge. We hope you enjoyed our property and will let us know about your stay. Your comments are very important to us. We strive to provide warm and personal service to all of our guests and greatly appreciate your recommendations".
