The Trapper’s Cabin is a 2 bedroom 1 bath cabin located in the heart of Gasquet, CA, conveniently situated off the 199 highway. Gasquet is 20 miles from the ocean, 10 miles from the Redwood National Forest, and sits directly on the Smith River. Come for the many adventures that the tallest trees, cleanest river, and secluded beaches have to offer, but stay for a sense of pure serenity.The cabin is just a short walk to the river. There is a fish cleaning station and grill in the backyard for anyone who is lucky enough to catch a prize winning steelhead or salmon. The immediate neighborhood is perfect for bike rides, hiking, kayaking, fishing, swimming, mushroom hunting, berry picking, bigfoot hunting, bird watching, quartz or gold mining, and stargazing. There is also an amazing massage therapist within walking distance, in case your adventures have left you feeling a bit sore. At the Trapper’s Cabin, you will have a spectacular view of the Adam’s Station, a local landmark. The view will take you back to the 1800’s, when Mary Adams Peacock entertained the many travelers who stopped at her B&B for a warm meal and comfortable bed. Yet, the cabin itself, has all the comforts and amenities of home. It has been designed for the explorer who still likes to come home to a memory foam mattress and smart TV. There is a queen sized mattress in each of the two bedrooms, as well as two cot-sized day beds in the living room, in case you need to sleep six. There is also a full kitchen and small laundry room. The backyard is secure and well suited for pets or small children. Although the cabin is relatively private, after a walk around the neighborhood, you will find that Gasquet has some of the most friendly neighbors around.NOTES:There is only one market in Gasquet with limited groceries. You will want to come prepared if you plan on cooking. The nearest grocery store is in Crescent City (20 miles west) or Cave Junction (35 miles east). There is also only one restaurant in Gasquet (Patrick Creek Lodge) and one restaurant in Hiouchi, the next town west, (Hiouchi Cafe).If you would like to book a massage, fishing trip, kayak rental, etc. you should do so well in advance. Enjoy your coffee by big bay windows or dine in the evening by the light of a sunset as the river meanders by on the way to the Pacific.Our family’s riverfront hideaway is located in Hiouchi, California, just 15 minutes East of Crescent City and outside the coastal zone and so enjoys warmer weather throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall. The house is quietly stationed at the end of a cul de sac which grants plenty of privacy. It is situated on 1.1 acres of gardens and ponds and has a deck that runs the entire length of the house, as well as a large sunroom that allows viewing of the river from inside by all. The architecture is suggestive of a provencal village in Denmark with white paint and red roof, providing a classic ambiance with all the modern comforts to make your stay in the heart of the redwoods memorable and relaxing. The Villa has been extensively renovated using top of the line finishes including granite tile, new white oak hardwood flooring, as well as new appliances, lighting and furniture. An open floor plan and big windows allow unobstructed views of the redwoods and the Smith River. No matter the season, your visit will enjoy the outdoors as well as indoors. The first floor offers an expansive kitchen-dining room layout. The dining area features plenty of seating with a table for 12 to host family gatherings. After dinner, enjoy the fireplace in the living room, while curling up on one of several couches to enjoy an evening’s conversation or TV viewing on a 65” flat screen. We provide plenty of games and reading materials to entertain the entire family. The first floor’s, large sunroom serves a dual purpose as it is also our game room with a regulation pool table. Just up the road from the Park is the quaint little town of Hiouchi, which offers a 9 hole golf course, a cafe with BigFoot size pancakes and a small hamlet store for obtaining groceries and gas. The fourth bedroom is a detached suite with two queen beds, a full bathroom and a laundry area. Enjoy the view and the sound of the river from indoors or outdoors, your choice, as there are plenty of windows to enjoy the view. The property backs up to the pristine blue waters of the Smith River with a short and easy trail right down to the water. There are various hiking trails throughout the nearby area. Jed Smith State Park and camping area is about 5 miles up the road. We are about a 10 minute drive from the Pacific Ocean and beaches.
