Also known as Shorties, this place is huge and by the look of it, it needs to be as it was packed. There are many different levels to choose from, and if it’s sport that you want to watch their plenty of screens all over the place. There is even a designated kids area for those with younger children. We had mussels which had a fabulous source with it, schnitzel, which there is a large variety to choose from, and I tried three little pigs burger which is a messiest burger to eat I’ve ever tried, but was also very yummy. If it’s a local pub that you want to go to, this is the place for you.

If you're after a no fuss place to rest your head then you can't find a better place to stay in Newcastle. The check in is a breeze as Sam and the rest of the staff are super nice and easy to work with. The rooms (though basic) are a 10/10 for cleanliness, comfort and have everything you need. There's free parking on site (huge carpark). The wifi is free (no password required) there's air-conditioning, bar fridge kettle and TV in your room (microwave and toaster are available in the communal kitchen) I've been staying in one of the single shared bathroom for nearly 3 weeks and in all that time I've only ever seen another person in the bathroom three times since being here. The bed is really comfortable and even the single bed has 2 fluffy pillows. I can't recommend this place highly enough

On arrival I was told I had to pay another $100 on top of the $108 payment I had already made to book the room. It’s a pub not a resort, really over the top paranoia about people trashing their rooms which were pretty nice and clean but toilets and shower were another matter altogether. There were only two toilets upstairs for the rooms and one was out of order (no signage of this on door) and someone had deficated on top of all the toilet paper stuck in it and it absolutely reeked. I almost vomited. The shower was in the same room as the smelly toilet so couldn’t use that either! What a disgraceful bathroom, won’t be back.

Had the twin room with en-suite. The shower was hot, the beds very comfortable. The room stayed reasonably warm, so we didn't even use the air conditioner. It is very basic, but for the price it was very good. This is an older building and you do need to use a small amount of stairs. We had dinner in the hotel, and it was a large meal that was enjoyable, and it saved us running around elsewhere. Can't comment on the shared bathrooms as I didn't check them out. if you have a car and it's a Sunday, you'll need to go to Mayfield to find breakfast. We used Short Stack Cafe.

We dropped into Shortland Hotel for lunch. Food was great and well priced. Best crumchy chips Ive had in a longtime. Had the spicy chicken burger which was delicious and the rump steak. Very good. Service was friendly. It was clean and there are wraps, melts and a daily curry as well. Highly recommend!

Shortland Hotel is a great place to meet up with family and friends and suitable for all ages. They have something on every night from cheap food to raffles and special events. Reasonable price food and delicious. The staff were lovely and I'm lucky I can walk there from my house.
