For a marriot property, there should be a minimum assured standard of maintenance and service, especially given the room rate that we paid. We booked this hotel because of the brand, and it was disappointing. The hotel was very old and tired - upkeep looked like it was non existent. First impression was not good - the door was so stuck that we had to use the might of our shoulders to push it open. The curtain was in a sad state, it was torn and patched up so it hung in an awkward lopsided way. The carpet felt slightly sticky- my partner sneezed all through the stay as he’s quite sensitive to dust. We were shocked to come back to an unmade room on the 2nd day - no fresh towels either. We had to request a room clean (this service is not available on the weekends) but this was not communicated to us when we checked in so we missed the boat, we then collected our towels from the reception. It was a good thing that we didn’t stay the weekend or we would have 4 nights of unserviced room. Breakfast was bad - eggs were dry; sausages were chewy, and we used disposable plastic forks, spoons and paper ups. The pros: bed was comfy, there’s free coffee at the reception all day, the windows can open so we could get fresh air in. If it wasn’t for the bed, we would have checked out.
