Excellent friendly CLEAN Saint Michael's has wonderful great dining & shopping but little else as a destination

Shelley was an amazing host - went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. The property is perfectly situated to walk around St. Michael's or ride their bikes like we did, without being smack dab in the middle of the hubbub. Like all of St. Michael's, it is pricey for what you get but that is understood when you book. It is time for a facelift in the rooms but being in this business too - we understand that it is hard to find time to do that when you are as obviously as busy as they are. Loved the BnB experience of sitting around the breakfast table meeting and talking to the other guests. Always a treat.

My husband booked a surprise overnight stay in St. Michael’s at The Parsonage Inn. We have stayed in many historic B&B’s over the years and had always wanted to try this one. It is a striking structure and very beautiful on the outside. We chose the “most popular” room (per their website) and expected what was pictured in their own photos of the room. Tasteful decor, attention to detail, brass bed, etc. The room is described as having a king bed, private bath and outside balcony access - the pictures looked so inviting. Imagine our surprise when we entered the room. There was no brass bed and instead there was a very nice sleigh bed. Ok, not a problem. But instead of the nice curtains hanging behind the bed in the picture, there were two dingy looking curtain panels stretched flat against the wall - literally attached with tacks. Disappointing, but still not horrible. The fireplace had a table in front of it with a table runner and two drink coasters tossed haphazardly on it…no lovely candlestick lamp or glasses as pictured. No pretty green coverlet, but a nice oyster colored spread instead. The air vent just inside the bedroom was coated in dust. All in all though, the room just looked sad. The worst part of the room was the bathroom. First, there was no door! Instead, there was a tension rod with a white ‘sheer’ curtain that came down from the ceiling about halfway. Not exactly what I’d call private and not mentioned anywhere in their website that I could find. But again, old house, quirky layout, not the best but we’ll deal with it. The real issue was the condition of the bathroom. It may have been “clean”, but it looked anything but. The toilet seat was stained all around the seat and looked disgusting. The tiles in the shower had quite a number of grout lines that were black and looked dirty. There was a broken floor tile and missing wall tile. All these things showed a lack of care. There was also an issue of getting hot water for the shower. We did let it run a good 20 minutes before giving up and the host agreed to credit back $25 against the $260 cost of the room. We did turn the knob in both directions and never could get hot water, though the host went in while we were having breakfast and came back to report the water was now hot and that we had the knob turned in the wrong direction. We didn’t argue as we were enjoying breakfast with the other guests. Bottom line, we can overlook a lot of things when dealing with historic properties, but the cleanliness and the completely different look to the room from their pictures is really not forgivable. When my husband complained about the hot water, he also mentioned the condition of the toilet seat and was told they are aware of these issues and were in the process of refurbishing the rooms. Maybe they shouldn’t be charging $260 a night until these issues have been corrected. Just be aware that, if you choose this room based on how lovely it looks on their website, you WILL be disap

One star for this B & B. Overall our room was a very tired, neglected room. Just to name a few things...the bathroom door didn't close, the toilet seat was completely covered with age old urine stains, the shower grout was black from mold, the pedestal sink was secured using a wooden block, and the front door took several attempts to securely latch. A very disappointing experience. Never again!

Excellent stay. Shelley was wonderful. Breakfast was perfect and yummy! Our room (we choose the king bed room) was perfect. The bathroom needs a little repair work but it met our needs. Easily walk to town. Bikes were available and outside patio set was also available for our use. Snacks were provided during the evening and day. Easy to find and park. Definitely would book again.

This home is old and does need some touching up, however, our hostess, Shelly was so very gracious. She and Julia, the owner make sure there is nothing that they will not provide to make your stay comfortable. However, if you are looking for perfect spacious rooms, this is not the place. It is average, their service and breakfast are what make it.

This falls into the category of “the best is not the enemy of the good enough.” Our room was comfortable and conveniently located in the town of St. Michael’s. We would be more than satisfied to return to the Parsonage Inn. Count us as being satisfied customers considering this booking was done only a few days in advance during the busy tourist season
