I travel each week with work all over the UK and this hotel is on my way home so I choose to stay for convenience. It does have a lovely outlook, great grounds and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. I decided this time to book one of the most expensive rooms. This was in the historic manor house, £160, no breakfast and not even a bottle of water in the room is included, just basic tea and coffee only! Needless to say, for this price you'd expect it to be an exceptional room, well it was not! Entering the building heading to the room (October) the smell of wet dogs was awful, although I understand this is a pet friendly hotel they need to account for this if allowing pets on site. It was awful. Upon entering the room I was shocked! The room was small and extremely basic. They actually have better rooms for a fraction of the cost in the main building? So what is this £160 charge for? No breakfast included, no water, just basic tea and coffee only. Furniture is dated and wardrobe doesnt shut properly due to sloping floors. I like a bit of building character but I dont like paying a silly price for a substandard room. I mentioned this to reception and the response was "yes, thats the worst room in that building" and then advised I was probably better looking at other hotels near by. WOW - well done Hilton, this is awful and an appalling service. Its a shame as the location and my weekly travel its perfect, but this room and response from Hilton is not acceptable.
