防波堤汽車旅館(Breakwater Motel)

We loved our stay here. Our second floor corner suite had gorgeous views of the bay and sunrise. Fantastic location as it’s a short walk to restaurants, bars, and the ferry wharf. Waitangi is a short drive or walk away. Our suite was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for three nights. The bed was comfortable, and we had plenty of space. Lyn was warm and friendly and gave us good local recommendations. We would happily stay here again!

July 2023 - Three night stay. Very nice property. Family run, friendly, very clean and orderly rooms, well appointed for self-catering, nice location across the road from water. Very walkable to the small town of Paihia and some great recommendations for local eateries from the proprietors. Very close (5 minute drive) to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, our primary objective. Our room was a one-bedroom seaview with a beautiful view onto Bay of Islands, and it was very suitable to our needs and very comfortable. Good Job!

I chose this motel not only because of its central location but also the great view I had from the upstairs, ocean view suite. I needed to recharge my batteries and get away from the city and into an environment which would be significantly different from my usual daily routine. I woke early to watch the arrival of the new day, across a motionless sea. There were some small clouds exploring their territory and a small number of birds- possibly looking for breakfast. Several people were out walking: some with their dogs, some in pairs or singles. A small number of cars slipped by. Nothing stressful. What a way to start the day! When I look at the photos I took during my time at the Breakwater Motel memories of a very relaxing, enjoyable and memorable short stay return to me, and I think: In a hectic world, what a wonderful way to recharge one's batteries .

This motel is clean and tidy. Very central. Owners friendly. Super comfy main bed. Nice to have the option of air con. For us, it was just too squishy for 5 of us. Two of the kids were on a sofa bed in the lounge plus one other child in a single bed right next to that. I understand its peak season but this seemed quite expensive for what it is. Bare basic kitchen supplies / equipment – not even a spare plate and no spare bin bag makes it tricky to cater. No instructions in the room about laundry or how to operate sky tv. No local info in the room etc. Probably wouldn’t stay here again with 5 of us but would be ok with 2 or 3 people.

Great suite with separate bedroom, large bathroom and good kitchinette. Close to everything in Paihia. Staff were friendly and housekeeping was superb. Ferry to Russell just down the road. Waitangi Treaty Grounds nearby are a must see

Absolutely wonderful stay at the Breakwater Motel. Spotlessly clean, superbly comfortable, great location. Highly recommend and will stay here again. Lyn was a great host, and quickly answered all questions via email prior to our stay.

The Breakwater is well-maintained and nicely furnished. The people running it are funny and kind. The views of the Bay are great. You are right up against the main road, though, so if you’re a light sleeper, expect to wake early.
