Be wary of this hotel. We decided to stay here as I was fascinated by its history, and we didn't want to stay in one of the resorts - however what was once likely a lovely old property has fallen in to neglect. There are some definite highlights from our stay - Dimitri at the front was wonderful, helpful, incredibly kind & friendly. The tour of the wine cellar was interesting; and the large pool was gorgeous although the other pool was dirty & the gardens around the area were unkempt and overgrown. There was never any staff at the pool, and the dressing rooms were dirty. The "luxury" room we were in was very spacious, but in desperate need of a deep clean and modernisation, the soft furnishings were fading and had not been updated in quite some time, the room smelled musty and my husband sneezed every time he walked in. The "jacuzzi" bath was a deathtrap, a gorgeous marble top around it made it impossible to get in / out of without straddling it & hoping not to slip. There was grouting missing, & the plug was impossible to put in the bath as it had so much limescale; same with the shower head - this was all in need of modernisation. There was the renmants of a wasp nest on the shutter, which I tried to open so we could get some fresh air. The towels were thin & small. We had to walk through the parking lot to get to our room as the gardens were closed and there was construction, which felt weird and disconnected from any charm of the main house. Breakfast was awful, consisting of a hard as rock croissant and other pastries - despite the misleading "breakfast included", it wasn't really accurate however the gentleman serving us was lovely and although they didn't know what a flat white was, they made a very good one! We didn't bother having breakfast the other days we were there. We arrived the night of the Junkanoo, and as we came home at 1:30am, there was a very drunken woman having a very loud conversation with her friend in the courtyard; I also had to go outside to ask the gentleman getting ready on the patio to stop yelling to his friends, there was also another guest who loudly spoke to his phone in the dining room at breakfast, at the pool and in the bar when he was having a drink. There was one lady who checked us in who was friendly, but overall the reception desk team were not particularly helpful or friendly. I appreciate that it's an older property, however some love and upkeep would go a very long way to restoring some of the elegance. Overall not what you'd expect for $500+ night.
