Our experience at Taj Corbett was a wonderful one, attributed largely to the courteous staff, attention to guest experience, and quality of service. While I’ve been a voice against how Taj Hotels had lost their way, this experience, safe to say, has proved that this legendary brand is on track to, again, stand true to their Brand Values. We arrived a day prior to New Year’s Eve, and were greeted by the Hotel Staff with fanfare. The check-in was smooth, we were escorted to our room by a staff member, and were acquainted with the resort. The property is by a river, set beautifully opposite a small cliff. Featuring multiple categories of rooms, there is a lot to choose from, we chose a cottage, which featured a very high ceiling, a nice tub, a sit out area, and a VERY comfortable bed (genuinely impressed with the quality). On the food front, we had Kung Pao Chicken and Fried Rice for lunch, both good, very Old-School Golden Dragon like. Dinner was Butter Chicken and breads, both good. Breakfast was great, featuring the classics of live Dosa, Omelettes, Waffles & Pancakes, and some delicious Kumaoni Parathas with local preparations. We had one of our dinners at Jim’s Grill, which featured a live bonfire and a live band. On the table was chicken tikka, breads and dal makhani. All good, more importantly super fresh, which was the theme of the food served here. Not over the top heavy, flavourful, and easy on the stomach. The New Year’s Gala Dinner was a very well put together affair, featuring a live band, DJ, and more food options than even four people can taste in one sitting. While I am not a fan of mandatory or enforced dinners or evenings, this one, at ₹9000++, seemed less painful because of the effort put in by the Hotel. The alcohol served was premium, a combination of imported Scotch, Vodka and Tequila, and local premium spirits like Kumaoni Gin, Gin Jiji and more. Food options ranged from starters, my favourite being the Prawn Spring Rolls and Kalmi Kebab, Live Counters featuring the likes of live Kathi Rolls and Pizzas, and main course counters offering more curries and dishes than we could count. 10/10 for effort by the property and the staff, and one could see the senior staff members present, ensuring guests are happy and things are moving ***** well. I would definitely go back, but look at a River Facing Room this time. The peace and tranquility at the resort is truly great. The care put in by the staff is also a pull. Hoping this sets the tone for more great experiences at Taj properties across the country.
