After considering a number of destinations we decided on the JW Marriott Muskoka. The location and the activities looked great … a perfect vacation for a few days to escape from the routine of the city and work. It looked like a great hotel to have fun with the kids too. Unfortunately what it is sold as a 5 star resort and spa was nowhere close to even be a 3 star destination. We stayed at a one bedroom suite, on the first night my wife could not get any sleep; her side of the bed completely collapse and became a horrible hammock; she has been having back pain for over a week now. On the next day we go down to the only restaurant it is open for dinner (despite of the fact that they advertised several high end restaurants in the resort) we ordered crab cakes, they were awful, frozen from a package, they were cold and absolutely terrible. We also ordered shrimp and they were even worse than the crab cakes, overcooked like by 3 minutes plus tasteless. Horrible dinner experience not to mention the $25 glasses of wine for something that was almost cooking wine. I am sure guests at the JW Marriott Muskoka go there knowing they will be paying 5 star hotel prices but we are expecting the same service in return that is the point of booking what is supposed to be a high end destination.
