This is a great hotel. It has atmosphere, history, and charm. Its only defect is that to get to and from second floor rooms, you have to climb stairs. This classic restored hotel hosted the cast and crew of the movie Giant--Taylor, Hudson, Dean, and you can stay in rooms named for them. Have stayed here twice, now, and the suite, with a great 1950's-style breakfast nook and kitchenette is really grand, and the James Dean room was comfortable, had a nice view of the alley, and was every bit the top-end vintage experience that this hotel wants to provide. The bar/restaurant downstairs is very good. Met some very interesting people at the bar during my first stay, and had dinner with the (in)famous Covid Cat Lawyer (check YouTube) the second. The menu is varied, and diners won't be disappointed. Service is very friendly, and very good. The hotel is right downtown. Climb up into the courthouse dome, where, according to West Texans, you can see so much distance, you're likely to see the back of your head. The Judd presence is just down the main drag in the old bank, in the old grocery store, just out of town, and by the grain mill. But look around for good food, too, and one of the most well-stocked walls of tequila, mezcal and Sotol you'll ever see. Explore Marfa, visit Ft. Davis, the McDonald Observatory, Marathon (and James Evans' Photography gallery), the Prada and Target stores (you'll get it), and hang out at night to see if you can see the mysterious Marfa Lights.
