Amantaka is one of those rare hotels that actually looks far better in person than it does in photos - a beautiful little French colonial style retreat in the perfect location in Luang Prabang. It is really immaculate, and looks especially impressive in the evenings, when the hotel fills the peaceful garden with lanterns. Everything about the hotel is top notch: beautiful rooms, excellent food, and extremely friendly and attentive staff. I was upgraded to a Khan suite (number 8), and I really couldn't ask for anything more: extremely spacious, and beautifully appointed. My complaints are fairly minor: above all, it would be nice if the pool was heated a few degrees warmer (and the private pools as well), and I felt the pricing for some of the activities was too high (although the room rate I think was justified given how great the hotel is). It was a bit unnecessary to charge a service fee for doing something as straightforward as booking me a train ticket - I would really expect that for free as part of normal concierge service provided by a top tier hotel. But these are small points relative to an overall fantastic experience. I'll absolutely be back. I particularly recommend doing the trip to the Kuang Si Falls and visiting the nearby elephant sanctuary, which was the highlight of my stay.

When our driver pulled up to the hotel by a rickety bridge over the river, we were a bit nervous as the hotel looks tiny from the outside. What we thought was the hotel was actually the lobby and the hotel is actually quite large and sprawling with buildings and bungalows scattered next to the river. The hotel has a lovely infinity pool by the river with a lounge chairs, beach towels and an affordable pool bar with snacks for sale. The rooms were spacious with large balconies. The toilet was by the front door so you had to exit the WC walk around the corner to the bathroom to wash your hands - sort of a weird set up, but did help in the morning for 2 people to get ready. This was the only hotel we stayed in with dual sinks and a long vanity so excellent for 2 travelers and a big plus! The shower was a walk in so east access. The hotel also has a restaurant where breakfast (included) is served in the morning. Unfortunately it was a buffet with limited options and the food that was supposed to be hot was always cold and unappetizing. The hotel uses tiny candles to try to keep the food warm but this method does not work at all. The hotel no longer has a shuttle to town which is a negative as you need to walk across a scary rickety bridge to get to town. The hotel does not have a gym which is a requirement, in my opinion, if you want to be a 5 star resort. My only other comment to management is to find a few better English speaking employees as we had difficulty communicating with staff. Yes we know we are in Laos and should learn to speak their language but I feel when you cater to tourists you need a few people in each area to speak the universal language for business. We did enjoy our stay and can recommend this hotel to others.

This hotel is right up there with the best we’ve stayed in, the size made it very personable, the staff all knowing us within a short time of our 4 night stay. We very much appreciated the care given in the breakfast restaurant, the whole team, Mr Souk, Mr Phone, Mr Vee, Ms Mark and Mr Bath were so well trained under Kelli’s very watchful eye, she was a delight. I enjoyed the best massage I’d ever had in my life by Phone, he had an exceptional and I think rare expertise. The gardens were amazing and I loved feeding the pet rabbits, the swimming pool a delight and a great size to really get the exercise in. No doubt the partnership with 3 Natgas restaurant works really well, an excellent restaurant and there was never a problem in drinking us into town, although an evening service runs as well. Thank you to the whole team for looking after us after a long stay and helping us have a wonderful start to our holiday

The staff are very friendly and were incredibly helpful in retrieving a telephone left a Kuang Si Waterfalls. No dinner available but breakfast was adequate, if somewhat limited. Plenty of coffee though. Location is good, down a quiet (usually) side street about 1km from the main street and night market. Good pool but cold, sunlight limited by rooms around the pool.
訪訪客Got off to a bad start with my t/f to guest house not in attendance on airport arrival despite landing 20 mins late. The water in shower was only tepid and no hot water for shaving. Breakfast for the extra 40,000kip[US$2.50] was adequate with unlimited tea/coffee. On arrival was placed in wrong room then moved to other side which was above the carpark and near the main road. Room was well appointed, no fridge or tea/coffee facility and house keeping good with consistent time each day[2pm]. The location was the most disappointing being on wrong side of river and having to cross the bamboo bridge to the tourist area on other side. There was only one main restaurant near g/h and as a result was very popular overlooking river.
