Firstly the good: this is a great location in the City of London, within easy walking distance of Liverpool Street station. If you don't mind a bit of a stroll, it was also within walking distance of the river and other great attractions (Columbia Street Flower market just one of many). The hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a stylish bar and reception area, and the room was lovely. We were able to check in early and the reception staff were very helpful. Now the bad: unfortunately they seemed not remotely equipped to deal with a busy Sunday breakfast, which was very surprising and disappointing, given the cost of the room and the breakfast itself (£60 for 2). The staff did their very best in what was clearly a challenging situation, but for a high end hotel, to not provide enough cover during what in any other hotel would be their busiest time seems very odd. We ordered coffee and waited, and waited while other people arriving later than us had their drinks delivered. Our meal arrived after some time, still no coffee. They came by twice with the wrong hot drinks, and we finally got our (correct) drinks about 50 minutes after first ordering, our breakfast now long finished. Getting a coffee seems a very basic thing to get right. It was a very disappointing end to our stay. The restaurant staff were clearly stretched, and very apologetic when we left. However the response of reception was to knock off the service charge. It was not a very satisfying resolution.
