Our room opened up RIGHT onto the lobby so we heard guests coming and going the whole stay. (Never been to a hotel where there was a room that close to the front desk. Felt like we were the en-suite to the reception area).
We were flying back to the east coast on a red eye and as we were checking out, asked to leave our bags and pick them up later. We were told this was no problem. We’ve done this many times before and know it’s a typical courtesy.
Just a couple hours after checkout, I received a voicemail from Elizabeth at the hotel telling me I needed to pick up the bags because they could not hold them “indefinitely.” I called back to explain that we had a flight that was leaving late at night and asking if they could hold them for us longer. Was told that no I needed to pick them up. And eventually given an ultimatum that I could pick them up before 5pm but no later.
When we ended up picking up our bags, it was clear that there was plenty of space in the closet. So unclear what the urgency was…
I fully recognize that my reservation ended when I checked out and the hotel is not required to hold bags for guests. That said, it is an established norm that hotels will accommodate guests in this situation. We cannot possibly have been the first guests ever to take a redeye after checking out of the Cormorant.
The implication seemed to be “you checked out, we have your money, we don’t feel the need to be hospitable to you anymore.” Really disappointed.
