Disappointing Experience – Poor Service, Hygiene Issues, and Lack of Accountability
We booked two rooms for our group of four via Trip.com more than 48 hours in advance, based on the hotel’s advertised availability. However, upon check-in, the receptionist (sunny) abruptly informed us we had to move rooms during our stay because the hotel was “busy.” and because we booked last minute less than 48 hours (which was untrue and not a valid reason to force room change). We simply did not want to be moved mid-stay and also was not informed prior. When we expressed this, the staff dismissed us rudely, stating we could “take our money and leave.” Their excuse about a “last-minute” booking was factually inaccurate and irrelevant given our confirmed reservation.
The forced room change disrupted our plans, with staff knocking early morning to rush us out. The “upgrade” room they offered was actually a downgrade; smaller bedroom, stuffy, and with an unpleasant smell. Additionally, the hot water supply was inconsistent throughout our stay, and the kettle provided had visible stains of presumably mould buildup underneath, which raised serious hygiene concerns.
That same night after room move, we found a cockroach on our bed. Next morning, the owner, michelle expressed shock and insisted this "hasn't happened before” which contradicts the staff's reaction when they arrived at night to clean the room, they appeared unbothered and simply said it must have come from the bathroom drain as if this were a common occurrence.
Despite reporting the issue promptly, it took an unreasonably long time for staff to respond, and they refused to offer a room change, claiming no rooms were available. They only changed the sheets and mopped the floor, which falls far short of acceptable standards for hygiene and customer care.
We did not ask for anything more than a clean room and a sincere apology. Unfortunately, what we received instead was defensiveness, denial, and blame, with the owner accusing me personally of having “an agenda from day one.” which was frankly inappropriate to say the least.
The morning after the cockroach incident, the hotel sent a massage voucher as compensation for one of our rooms. We politely declined because we had other plans and because I was snorkeling (while others in our group went diving). It is concerning that a hotel offering scuba diving services seemed unaware of universal standard safety advice against massages within 24 hours of diving.
Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, the owner reacted pettily. After accusing me of having “an agenda" for not taking voucher. It was quite clear that it was to keep us quiet from sharing our experience. she threatened to call Trip.com before we posted any review. This unprofessional and defensive behavior confirms the hotel’s lack of accountability.
We are sharing our experience not out of spite, but to honestly inform future guests. If you value respectful service, hygiene, and transparent communication, I strongly would recommend looking elsewhere. This hotel’s handling of our stay was far below the warm and welcoming Thai hospitality we expect as a local Thai residents let alone for any foreign nationals visiting Koh Tao for holiday.

Only a few guests would have experienced this during the peak season and all have understood and responded reasonably when informed as they understand it's peak season and a booking 48 hours prior to check in is considered last minute.4 guests shouting at the resort manager and receptionist about this is not okay and will not be tolerated.As you were so aggressive you were offered to cancel your booking at no charge and to proceed with a booking elsewhere. You did not want to cancel but instead continued to berate hotel staff causing quite a scene at reception for the hotel owner even to have to intervene. We can quote your sister saying "the fact we booked 48 hours ago is irrelevant the other families that booked in advance should move rooms not us."The cockroach you mentioned may have come from the personal towels that your sister and brother and law bought from home to use at the beaches/cafes etc as it was inside their scrumpled up beach towel they placed on the bed after using it for several days during daily excursions.When your sister and brother in law discovered the cockroach the entire housekeeping team came at 10pm to completely clean their room throughout, mop floors change bed sheets and towels and even laundered their personal towels they brought from home. Through out this process your sister and brother in law took videos and photos of our housekeeping staff to intimidate them to support your agenda to blackmail into giving you a free stay.The massages were offered to them during their stay as your sister and brother in law were snorkelling and not diving. No one was rushed out their rooms during your stay. The 4 nights you booked required you to change rooms on the 3rd day. You had one room for the first two nights and then changed for the last two nights. You were offered a later check out, staff moved your luggage. You were helped to make this as smooth as possible.It was very clear from the moment you arrived that your groups intention and agenda was to be rude and create as many problems as possible to try and engineer a free stay.We won't be blackmailed as your sister tried to do at reception, hence why we contacted trip.com to inform them of your groups intentions.

Если мы еще раз приедем на KhoTao мы обязательно остановимся в этом отеле! Очень красивая территория отеля, в отдалении от шумных улиц, но в пешей доступности. Очень много зелени, поют птицы, просто тропический рай); уборка в номере каждый день, никого об этом просить не нужно; можно заказать в номер не только завтраки но и обеды и ужины (в номере лежит 2 меню от разных ресторанов); очень удобная кровать; панорамные окна на пальмы, просыпаешься открываешь глаза, и видишь :🌴; чистейший и приватный бассейн с разной глубиной, в окружении тропиков, до сих пор скучаю и вспоминаю как же там было хорошо..
Также есть трансфер, мы не пользовались, но он есть. Как прибудет паром, слева от причала будут стоять парни с табличками названия отелей, ищите Woodlawn village. Ставлю 11 из 10 этому отелю ❤️

Our new visit to Wood this year! The only new thing is that the walls have been painted) I still like the place, but all the same problems as before remain. I would like the service to be a little better!❤️

Bon rapport/qualité prix en basse saison - agréable et sans nuisance - par contre pad de réel service hôtelier - et prix bien trop élevé pour revenir en haute saison pour un établissement qui ne fourni pas vraiment de service hôtelier - Pas de petit-déjeuner disponible - pas de bar - Pas vraiment d'ambiance.

Good location, very friendly service, and good laundry service. The accomodation offers pick up and return services to the center.
Only down-side was that the shower occasionally did not have warm water.

Super nice team, friendly super quiet I sleep good night in the middle of the green everywhere. The tea it’s very helpful

A very pleasant experience at this hotel. You see the staff cleaning the grounds and the rooms and it reminds you of some staff movies like The Remains of the Day.
