Exceptional high hygiene standards throughout. Very reasonable pricing with an amazing breakfast with a view. Proprietor friendly and knowledgably. Very good experience creating a "Home from Home" visit. Would book again. Highly recommended.

We recently spent four nights at the Royal Oak Guest House on a business trip. Absolutely lovely experience - the rooms, were elegant and comfortable, the common space was very convenient for us to gather in, and breakfast could not have been more delicious (it is worth the stay for the stewed rhubarb alone!). Eric made us very welcome - and went above and beyond in returning my lost mobile phone to me after the visit. The guest house is about a 20 minute walk from the town centre, where there are plenty of dinner options. Plenty of off-street parking available at the guest house. Highly recommend!

My friend and I stayed for three nights at this excellent guest house recently. We arrived late evening as we were coming straight off the ferry. I had sent email earlier to advise owner of this. Alix gave us a warm and friendly greeting as we arrived. He spent time showing us around the guest house and explaining how things run. For example, ordering breakfast night before to ensure everything is cooked fresh at the time we requested. The rooms are just beautiful. Modern, warm, well thought out and spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need. There is a guest living room upstairs with books, games, a microwave and fridge. Also large comfortable sofas to relax into if you wanted to. Alix is so bright and cheerful in morning. Breakfast was just delicious. There is plenty on offer including cereal, fresh fruit and homemade muesli. Cooked breakfast could not be faulted at all Alix and his wife are Orcadians and full of local information and top tips. Alix was happy to chat and give us information on local tourist attractions. The guest house is not in central Kirkwall, but the town centre is within walking distance. I would suggest having a car to get around the islands to see what beautiful Orkney has to offer. I would not hesitate in recommending this delightful guest house. We certainly plan to come back at a later date

Here for four nights, welcomed by Alice and baby Poppy (very cute). The room had recently been updated and was all new throughout and plenty of power points for charging gadgets (a pet peeve) the bathroom was very nice with a good sized shower, In the morning Eric cooked us breakfast with a smile, nothing appeared to stress him. As a local he was also able to give us advice for places to visit and eat. The Royal Oak is very well located for visiting the city, just a short trip from the airport. We had a very relaxing short break and would definitely recommend to friends hoping to visit the islands.

We were booked here thru Rabbie´s and we had a very comfortable two nights at the Royal Oak Guest House. We were given a twin room en suite and it was a very spacious room with a lot of space for all your belongings. Since we were on a Rabbie´s tour our nights here were basically in and out with long days on the road. We did stay in since we were to tired to walk down the street to Kirkwall center. Our tour guide made a stop at the local Lidl so we bought some "tv-dinner" to heat up in the microwave in the lounge up stairs. Alice made a very nice breakfast for us. You basically fill in a form the evening before what you want for breakfast. Plenty to choose from.

Going the extra mile for our comfort!! We forgot our phone on the tour bus and had trouble contacting the tour guide. Eric not only called the tour guide but also “popped down the road a wee bit to get it for us”. Thank you so much. And this was over and above the clean, quiet room they provided us. And the excellent breakfast they fed us. Wonder place.

Very comfortable bed ( I'm not used to sleeping in a single but this one was very comfortable.) Air conditioning was handy as it was quiet close overnight a couple of times. Breakfast is a treat

We stayed for 4 nights last week while on a tour of Orkney with Intrepid Travel. Alice and Eric couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming and we had a comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean with modern bathrooms and good showers. Breakfasts are delicious and cooked to order. We especially loved the fresh raspberries and the lovely bacon (not together!). The Royal Oak is about 15 minutes’ walk into central Kirkwall which has some very good restaurants, interesting shops and places to visit. Thank you Eric for the wonderful Orkney butter to bring home!
