I visited this hotel 40ish years ago as a teenager. I told myself someday I was gonna stay there. I finally made it! Even with the 160 million dollar renovation going on, it was wonderful. The only drawback... Bring your own comfort food. The only places to eat are controlled by the resort and they extremely expensive and posh. No basic burgers, pizza, etc for 20 plus miles of mountain roads. Don't get me wrong, I love fine dining but not EVERY meal. Plan to spend 50 to 150 per person for each meal if you eat at the resort or the 4 to 5 choices in town. Also, most everything is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, so remember that when you book as well.
Overall, this place is fabulous. We will come back after renovation is complete to see how marvelous it becomes.
