Hat Head Holiday Park is just a campsite with two cabins, a shop and some shower blocks. There are not even lights after dark to light your way around, and no leisure facilities whatsoever. The small, poorly-stocked, relatively expensive shop doubles as the reception, it closes around dinner time. There is no swimming pool and no safe sea or river swimming nearby (red sediment, rumours of bull sharks, and relentless waves). The nearby town of Hat Head had nothing at all to offer. Not even a coffee shop. We stayed several nights in May 2022. We booked Cabin 10 as it has two bedrooms. We had no choice but to give the double-bed to our elderly father. This left only a children’s metal-framed bunk bed for us two adult males. Cabin 10 has one bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. The bathroom space is adequate and the water pressure ok. It had heating lamps for the cooler evenings. When I stepped out of the shower, I could feel the warmth on me, which was nice. In the top bunk, however, I had nowhere to put my phone, water, lip balm, and other things I need in the night. There was no bedside lamp anywhere to read by, nor a bedside table to put one on. I could not sleep on the bunk bed at all. I could not even fit in the bed! My skin on the bare metal at night was unbearable. The single air conditioning unit is installed in the kitchen. It worked well, but we could not benefit in the bedroom with doors closed for privacy. I was VERY disappointed to find that the fresh linen was not placed upon the beds. It was pure laziness by the staff. They simply could not be bothered to fit the sheets on to the bunk bed. This may be because it was SO difficult to put them on the bunk bed. It’s very poorly designed. I have several bruises to show for my attempts to fit the sheets. The bunk bed is simply NOT fit accommodation for an adult. The bottom bunk is plainly uncomfortable with creaky metal girders all around it. Climbing down from the top bunk to access the toilet several times a night was painful for me. The room may perhaps be acceptable for two children. It was cruel of the holiday park to allow 3 adult males to book this poor-quality accommodation, plainly intended for a couple with children, without a warning. The kitchen had very good amenities. There was a choice of teas (excellent quality), small milk carton, some sugar sachets. There was a microwave and decent sized fridge-freezer. All good and very clean. The two couches, however, were stained and smelly. When I sat on them the dust made me sneeze. I avoided them after that. They were clearly well-used by numerous persons unknown. The cabin location within the park is, to some extent, ideal. Near the river and beach. I would hate to be here in a flood situation though. However, we were surrounded by kangaroos and interesting bird life day and night. However, there is little to do, no entertainment whatsoever, and I was completely bored most of the time, as a non-drinker by choice.
