We stayed at the Bear’s Den on a family ski trip to Hakuba and we loved it. Lesley, the lodge owner and manager, was really welcoming and incredibly helpful; she picked us up from the local train station, booked local restaurants, arranged ski passes, and cooked us breakfast every morning (including a special one-off request of pancakes for the kids). The lodge is warm, inviting and really well kept. The layout strikes a nice balance between private and communal areas, so you can socialise with the other guests while at the same time as enjoying your own personal space. The location is excellent; only a short walk to the Goryu/Hakuba 47 Ski Resorts as well as a number of local restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend staying at the Bear’s Den if you plan on visiting Hakuba.

This was our second trip to Hakuba, and while the snow and boarding are fantastic, the main reason we returned was to stay at Bears Den. Lesley is an amazing host and the lodge is the perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes. Tucked down a dead-end street and surrounded by forest it's a quiet and magical place when it's snowing. There's a little track out the back that you can ski/board down from the bottom if Goryu as well, so it's virtually ski-in. The upstairs open plan area is great for relaxing by the fireplace with a Sapporo or a sake and is also where Lesley serves her fabulous breakfasts (included in the accommodation charge). Lesley is also more than happy to drop guests at the ski lift, bus stop, etc., book dinner for you, arrange the Black Cat luggage transfer and I could go on. We will be back again.
