The fact that Home Suites Boutique Hotel is ranked on TripAdvisor as the #1 hotel in Freetown says more about Freetown than the hotel. This ain’t no Ritz Carlton. If you’re staying in a basic room, Home Suites Freetown is comparable to a new-ish Holiday Day Inn in the U.S. Approach it with an appropriate level of expectation and you’ll likely be satisfied with your stay. Positives: Design and decor has soul that American chain hotels can only aspire to. Restaurant service depends largely on your server. Most staff were friendly. Don’t hesitate to get out of your seat and flag down your server if your beer is empty. But the food and drink menu is fantastic - I stuck with African omelets for breakfast and catch of the day for dinner (photo attached) and wasn’t disappointed. Comfortable beds and clean rooms. Their “oversized, luxury bathrooms” just means when you open the door, it doesn’t bump into the commode. They were the nicest hotel bathrooms I’ve seen in West Africa but “oversized” and “luxury” are relative terms. Negatives: Terrible sleep quality. The lovely tile floors throughout and sturdy doors meant I heard a lot of footsteps, conversations and comings and goings throughout the night. There’s something about the plumbing, I think, that makes a squealing sound in the walls when other guests flush toilets. Light sleepers might have some difficulty staying asleep. Room power is activated by inserting your key card in a wall device. So if you’re hot and sweaty from touring Freetown, don’t expect to come back to a refreshingly chilly room with cold water in the fridge. You’re gonna have to wait for the AC to do its job; You can speed up the process in the bedroom by closing the door to the bathroom. Standard rooms are on the tiny side. Opening my clamshell style suitcase on the floor effectively bifurcated the room, meaning I had to clamber across the bed to get from one side of the room to the other. TV has 8 channels, most of which were fuzzy or frozen pictures. All in all, it’s a decent hotel and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to U.S. & European visitors of Freetown. After spending a couple weeks in Sierra Leone, I can see how it might rank as one of the better hotels in-country. But its “excellent” and “superior” ratings are relative to the local competition. Grading on a curve: 4/5

Clean and has everything you need for a business trip. Stayed 7 nights. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast outstanding. BUT, noisy because of demonstrations/manifestations/celebrations in parc across the street.

I greatly appreciated the quality of the service, not only the whole staff but also the Boss.... and the food is excellent!! If they can organize some tourism package tour on WE, it will be fantastic!!!

pro -great pick up service to the hotel and back to the airport -staff acted very professional -gym was GREAT, big and well equipped (but no squat rack) -comfy beds, rooms are not that big but ok. room sizes of the same category can differ a lot. one had a much bigger bathroom -in general it was clean -staff in front of the lobby was very helpful e.g. when i needed keke transport -secure -restaurant was great -aircon worked well con -it’s better to pay the room cash in usd or online. when you try to pay at the reception, they give you a horrible exchange rate that was 80 dollar more expensive than paying online with card in usd. -i stayed in two rooms and both had an ant problem. eventually i got bug spray and could solve the problem -the first room had water leaking from ceiling and was a bit noisy the cleaning staff made many mistakes: -i had dirty pillow sheets and the pillows were on the floor. instead of changing the sheets, they just put the dirty pillows back on the bed -i used the cups in the room to eat cereal. after they cleaned the room, the staff just flushed them and put them back, but there were still pieces of food inside - disgusting. this made me question whether the cup i used was properly cleaned after it was used by the previous guest. -one morning they took the second towel and only left one -one morning they kept ringing the bell even though i put the ‚dont disturb’ sign and was in bed internet speed not always reliable, sometimes it was impossible to get work done for european standard would be maybe a 3 out of 5. but overall this is probably one of the best options for hotel in the area and i would stay here again

This was a very nice hotel. The staff were friendly and considerate, and they were excellent about coordinating with the Seacoach ferry people to arrange transportation. The room was comfortable, the bed was exactly what I needed after a long trip, and the TV offered ample viewing options, including channels with movies and sports. I also appreciated the gym, which had treadmills, elliptical machines, and a good set of free weights (as well as weight machines, which I didn't use). In all, a great place to stay in Freetown.

The hotel is modern and clean. Home Suites staff are very friendly and professional. They make you feel very welcome. The hotel facilities are also very good. There is an indoor gym and also pool. They also have a bar for evening sit down. I love the place. Myself and family will come back. Anyone coming to Sierra Leone should visit there.

This small hotel was a delightful surprise. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Laundry (same day service) was a bargain (about $2.25 per piece). Rooms were nice size, with good a/c. Large bathrooms and big shower with plenty of hot water. Dinner in the hotel was delicious -- the local entree (roast chicken with spicy red sauce), jollof rice, fried plantains was excellent! The breakfast buffet was quite nice as well, although we never found a bread/pastry item we liked. The pool is very small and you have to go thru either the dining room or the bar to get there and back! And the bar is not inviting at all. One night they refused to give our female friend a 2nd glass of wine?! And one night we found the "no smoking" bar filled with smoke because they had a couple of "locals" who were allowed to sit up front and smoke like chimneys. Overall this was a lovely hotel and we would recommend it to friends.

Clearly the best hotel of the capital. The staff and service far exceed local standards. The rooms are also better than those at the Radison I wouldn't choose any other hotel for my stays in Freetown. I warmly recommend !
