Morning Dew Boutique Hotel Ella

Amazing hotel and great location. A short walk to the main ***** but in a quiet location which we loved. Great view of nature and a very comfortable place to stay. The rooms were great, as was the rooftop bar and pool. Specific mention for Chamidu and Shehan who were extremely helpful members of staff. Helping us as required, answering and sorting all our questions and needs as well as giving amazing advice for hidden locations.

Was asked to pay in advance for this hotel and told that couldn’t pay on arrival. As based in UK my bank charged a currency conversion fee to send payment in USD. When I arrived they asked for a 5,500 LKR payment (c. $18), which apparently was to cover their currency conversion costs. This meant I paid for their foreign exchange, despite it being them who insisted on advance payment. Forex risk should be a consideration as part of running their commercial enterprise, and not borne by the guest as an extra charge on arrival. Very disappointing. Especially as if I paid on arrival, this could have been avoided completely. Staff were attentive, friendly, and always willing to help. Room was clean and sizeable, and bed was really comfy. Plus great views.

A very well-appointed boutique hotel with friendly and attentive staff. Views are incredible (worth the steep road up from the main street - thank goodness for the shuttle provided by the hotel) and the pool is divine. Our room was very comfortable and spacious with views from two sides, including from the shower! Breakfast and dinner were both delicious (the yellowfin tuna was perfect). Ishara, the food and beverage manager, was very respectful and professional. He ensured that we were satisfied with what we had ordered, and loved to chat about Sri Lanka and our country - New Zealand. We would would highly recommend that you stay here when you’re visiting Ella.

Beautiful location for views but access can be challenging. Others have written (in other reviews0 about the steep road climb to the hotel. It is true. It is walkable but three tuk-tuks refused to take us back after dinner. There is a shuttle from the hotel but it stops at 6:00pm. The hotel assured us that we could easily get a tuk-tuk back to the hotel after 6:00 but for us, this was not the case. Poor and inconsistent Wi-Fi connection; we had to stand by the door of our room to get a signal. Elevator very small (two pax plus two bags max) and very slow. We went to breakfast at 8:30 and the buffet was virtually empty and picked over. Certainly not excellent food, nor plentiful. The ‘hopper’ was as shown in pic, and burnt. Others have said it is noisy, but we did not find this was so. The pool few is spectacular, but the water was murky and not clean and we chose not to swim. There is a gap in the screening and children should not be unsupervised poolside. This hotel is fair at best. Staff are very welcoming.

Perched atop a steep hill very close to Ella town (it’s walkable for fit and agile folk), the situation of this hotel affords stunning 360 degree views. Our room was spacious and comfortable with gorgeous views, and so high up that we were woken by birdsong from the treetops near our balcony. Tuk tuks can’t access the hotel if wet as it is too steep - worth knowing. Two things the owners of the hotel need to change: 1. Health & Safety: the hotel needs tighter safely build measures. I’m so glad my youngest was fourteen, coming here with a child under 12 would be terrifying due to high opening windows with huge drops, and railings which are dangerous. 2. The pool is tiny and only has room for six sun beds as it is on a dizzyingly high rooftop. Again, beautiful 360 degree views, but relocate it to garden level, make it much larger, and you will have a resort which will be both commercially and practically (for guests) a much better plan. There are no resorts near Ella other than the 98 Acres which does open it’s resort pool but this was totally overrun with club scene backpackers…

We have just spent 3 wonderful nights at the Mountain Dew Hotel. We arrived in torrential rain, but that did not dampen the initial impression of the hotel as you could still see the amazing 360-degree views of the mountains Ella Rock, Little Adams Peak and others. The room was very comfortable and we had wonderful views from the shower. The staff at the hotel are so friendly and always made you feel welcome. The rooftop pool with amazing views was also a blessing after hiking up the mountains. For the cost, this hotel is definitely worth 5 stars, and any faults other reviewers have found are generally knit picking. I wish we had stayed longer than the 3 nights we booked as Ella is lovely and the hotel was the icing on the cake

Das Hotel liegt unglaublich schön am Hügel mit einem fantastischen Ausblick auf Berge und auch die kleine Stadt Ella. Unser Zimmer hatte einen wahnsinnig schönen Ausblick auf den Wasserfall am gegenüberliegenden Berg. Ella kann man zu Fuss in wenigen Minuten erreichen. Wir waren zwei Nächte hier und hatten sowohl Frühstück als auch Abendessen und wir sind wirklich nicht enttäuscht worden. Wir hatten abends ein gewähltes Menü und alleine das Tuna Steak war unglaublich lecker!Frühstück war in Buffetform und für jeden was dabei, daher super gepasst! Grosser Pluspunkt ist das sehr freundliche Servicepersonal, egal ob bei der Rezeption oder bei der Rooftop Bar oder auch beim Restaurant.

It is a really nice hotel with a fantastic view. The staff was very friendly and professional. However there were some small details, we came across. The rooms are clean but a little bit musty due to the high humidity. The last 200m to the hotel are really steep, so you really have to be careful. But all in all a good place to stay in Ella.

The hotel is beautifully situated above Ella. The rooms are comfortable and exceptionally beautiful. The view over the mountains, the surrounding countryside and the beautiful nature is unbeatable. The service is outstanding, a shuttle service to Ella is offered by the hotel. The breakfast is also highly recommended. We spent 3 wonderful days at Morning Dew. It was wonderful. Not to forget the beautiful roof terrace and the swimming pool on top of the roof.
