查林沃思莊園飯店(Charingworth Manor)

Really enjoyed our two night break here. The receptionist had alerted me to the fact that renovations were being carried out when I made my booking but this did not affect our stay in any way. On arrival we were upgraded to a suite which was very comfortable and clean and we enjoyed the welcome wine, fruit and chocolates. The food was exceptional and the service was first class. We had both breakfast and an evening meal. All staff were courteous, friendly and extremely helpful. All in all a fantastic weekend and I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I stayed here for one night on the 29th of December. Upon approaching the hotel the grounds were nice, if a little untouched. Parking wasnt obvious to find, and we drove around to be sure we were in the correct place. The reception was cosy and in the old part of the hotel. The check in was friendly and we were shown to our room through a bit of a maze of corridors. I was in a deluxe king double with my girlfriend, my friends were in similar rooms. From the other rooms we could see, it was mostly the bed size that was increased. The room was spacious and well equipped, just bland and in need of some TLC. Cobwebs behind the radiators and in the corners of the bedroom ceiling and a drafty door onto a garden all needed some attention. Anyway, lets talk about the positives of the hotel. 1) dinner was included in the price (well a contribution towards it) and the food was really good. Everyone in my party was impressed, especially the two coeliacs in the party. 2) Drinks/cocktails were also good and the staff were very friendly and attentive. 3) The pool was quite large and was a good temperature and there were plenty of towels available. 4) There was a gym, but that looked like it had seen better days with some machines not working. 5) The shower was powerful and was commented on by the others, so mutst have carried through to the other rooms. 6) It was very quiet and very dark in the room at night..which can only be good when sleeping Not so great: 1) Fireplaces with no fires...at Xmas time? 2) No music and harsh lighting in the restaurant...what could have been a very inviting space was actually the opposite...Other tables could listen in on conversations (and did) and at times it was like a library. 3) The Gym, changing rooms and the bedrooms needed a refresh.... they were very dated and tatty. 4) Breakfast was nice but small.... We werent sure why the toast was brought out way before the rest of the food arrived and the coffee wasn't great. No Cappucinos, lattes or similar were available. My 'full english' was one poached egg and two rashers of bacon...(yes, I asked to remove the sausage and black pudding) but in its place I expected another egg and some more bacon? 5) Room cleanliness could be improved...if guests can see cobwebs why cant housekeeping? Overall this was a great place in a convenient location for the main Cotswold towns and I would be happy to stay again. The things that would improve things could easily be attained though.

I was unfortunate to spend a 3 day Chris**as break at this hotel, and having stayed in quality hotels around the world this was a let down. Rooms were in clean modern outbuildings and mine appeared to be well appointed, but when I went to bed the mattress was thin and lumpy giving no support and the pillows were old hard compressed synthetics The public areas in the main house were small and the furnishings needed renovating ,this included the restaurant which was a long narrow room with no character, which perfectly matched the food which was basic comprising 3 courses from a very limited menu .My local restaurants at home are far superior. The staff were pleasant, but the management did not welcome us for the festive break at a drinks reception. The drinks were overpriced eg A double Tanqueray G&T was £16.75 ,and the wines were £40.+ for basic plonk, which matched the food. BEWARE the added service charge when settling your account. I refused to pay it and it was removed.

We stayed at the Charingworth Manor yesterday and I have to say it was a huge disappoin**ent. Positives were - food was good and the hotel was clean and tidy. Negatives were hotel is extremely dated especially the swimming pool changing rooms. The worse thing above all was the suite that we had specially booked, this was a huge disappoin**ent especially the shower which was unsafe to be honest. It was so small it was basically unusable. Whilst showering you either kept opening the door or knocking off the shower products off of the shower caddy. This type of bathroom is really not what you expect from a suite. The communication by the hotel was also poor. I telephoned from the room and was told this was the best room they had and further to that I specially emailed the manager through the receptions email address and unsurprisingly I’m still waiting for a reply 24 hours on. Be aware before you visit their photos are limited on their website. We won’t be returning. Certainly not good value for money in todays times.

We booked a suite at the Manor and were not disappointed. The bedroom, bathroom, and living room were lovely and spacious. We really enjoyed using the swimming pool daily, as the weather was poor and there was nothing else to do. You have to come by car, as we experienced, you are pretty much trapped if you decide to rely on taxis. My first disappoin**ent with the staff came before arriving, when I asked about transportation and mentioned Uber. The rude lady laughed at me loudly, saying this was the Cotswolds. The hotel refuses to help you with transportation, providing you with a list of taxis to phone yourself. The next shock came at dinnertime our first evening. I was hoping to be able to visit the village the next day and have dinner there, which turned out impossible. There are no available taxis in the area unless booked well in advance. This meant we didn't make a reservation for an early dinner the next day, and they could only offer dinner at 7.30. That is too late for someone travelling with a small child. We asked if we could have a room service, and the same rude lady said they do not provide room service. As it happened, we overheard the couple sitting next to us getting roomservice, as the young lady was feeling uncomfortable in crowded surroundings. The only offer we got was to eat cold sandwiches for dinner next evening. I should mention that my luggage was badly damaged after being taken to our room. I phoned the management and left a message with our grievances, at which the manager replied that we should have booked early dinner well in advance, and that he is sorry our luggage was damaged. We are very underwhelmed by the aloofness the staff and management treat their guests. For 280 pounds a night, I expected something more professional and a better care of their guests. I find the Manor grossly overrated and would certainly not come again.

When I called day ahead to ask about transportation, the lady at the reception laughed at me for asking if I could find an Uber. Our room was lovely, spacious and luxurious. We loved using the pool daily, and it ended up being the most popular activity. Sadly on our arrival, I had noticed that my luggage was damaged and couldn't be properly closed. The tennis court was full of cracks, making it hard to play. During our first dinner at the restaurant we were served bland soup and oversalted fish. As they couldn't accommodate us for an early dinner the next evening, we asked if they could oblige us with a roomservice, to which the arrogant lady said blankly no. We were offered no options with a small child, other than to have a very late dinner. Unfortunately for the hotel, we overheard a couple sitting next to us getting offered roomservice, due to the lady being uncomfortable around so many people. After making a complaint about this to the assistant manager, all she offered us was to have cold sandwiches served at the drawing room. I rang the manager's office for the cottages and made a complaint, being assured this was something they would rectify and told they would contact me via phone or email. They didn't do anything to help with the differential trea**ent nor the damaged luggage. For 280 punds a night, I expect better. I can't recommend staying there, nor would we be returning. Appalingly unprofessional staff really ruined our stay.

We had high expectations of this hotel, because of the beautiful location and lovely historic building. Unfortunately the hotel did not live up to this and in hindsight - we would’ve been wiser to look at some of your 1 to 3 star reviews instead of just the top ones. Basically, we reiterate what these more candid reviews are saying - that whilst the staff were very nice, the hotel is tired, particularly the lounges and the restaurant and our bedroom smelled musty. The mattress was uncomfortable and the duvet and pillows poor quality. The outdoor area and spartan furniture by the spa (which is simply a pool) was dirty and covered in old bird droppings The food was average and although we were looking for light dinner (having had a late lunch) we were forced to have minimum of 2 courses - no ‘ifs or buts’! We’ve noticed that the manager’s usual response to less than complimentary reviews are defensive rather than constructive. Perhaps that’s where the problem lies

This is a lovely hotel. All the staff are most welcoming and friendly. The dinner was superb. The white chocolate and Grand Marnier parfait was particularly memorable. All the food, breakfast included was beautifully cooked and presented. Lovely little pool for a relax. Shame it was too cold to sit outside but the views are fabulous. Great NT properties close by too. Can't fault it.

We booked a 2 night de luxe room break at Charringworth Manor as a retreat from chemotherapy. It was everything we hoped for and more. Scenic setting ,lovely comfortable room , superb food and outstanding customer service at all levels. A really enjoyable and therapeutic tonic at this wonderful hotel. Thank you to all the staff and a special commendation for Jess for such pleasant service.
