The Platypus Accommodation & Cafe

We chose this small town as a staging post for the night on the way back home from a 2 week road trip. We love to stay small country towns, but this was definitely the smallest that we’d stayed in. The reviews on TA were very good, so thought we’d give this place a try - it was only for one night, after all. The place was pretty quiet on a Monday night, and nothing was open for dining, but fortunately the check-in instructions were so thorough that we knew that we had to prepare in advance. The Platypus offers prepared meals that one can pre-order the day of by 4pm and they are left in the room’s fridge. There’s a café as part of the establishment that close at 4pm, and they have nice sandwiches, and sweet baked goods etc. Self check-in was easy and access to the room a cinch. Once in our room, did a quick inspection and noticed that there was only 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper available…this was clearly an oversight, and thankfully the café attendant was able to help and get us another roll for our stay. The room (#3) was very comfy, great bed, clean linens and towels, and a spacious shower (lots of hot water and good water pressure). The only oversights was that there was no tea towel, though there’s dishwashing liquid and a sponge, and there’s an iron and board, a place to hang clothes, but no hangers or hooks. The next morning, we took full advantage of the café and each had a very good flat white and shared a very generous and tasty ham and cheese croissant. We highly recommend this place.

Wow what a great find. We had been to the Canowindra Balloon Glow and booked at the Platypus Motel. Arrived very late and was no bother as self check in that had all been advised by the hosts how to enter etc. Rooms very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others

Loved it. Clean, well appointed and a great shower. Crisp white sheets, super comfy bed. We had an alfresco (self catered) meal on the front porch - serene and perfect. Looking forward to coffee and a bacon & egg roll in the morning from the cafe as we head out. A great find, highly recommend!

So happy we stopped at this little place. Great takeaway coffee. Staff was friendly and professional. They also have a nice range of Nik naks to purchase. We also bought some carrot cake and a croissant. Both were delicious.

We stayed out here for the Parkes Elvis Festival. Whilst it is almost an hour away, we were really happy. The communication about check in was great and really helpful with other local recommendations. When we checked in at almost 11pm after a really long day, the place felt like heaven. Looked nice, smelled nice, good room and a really comfortable bed. The cafe next door does good value, simple but good quality fare. Cafe and accommodation staff were all lovely. And the town itself has a nice vibe. Highly recommend.

We needed to find an overnight stop pretty fast but didn’t want to be too far ‘off the track’. There has been a lot of flooding in the Western part of NSW and we were not able to continue the way we planned. After a quick look at our options we decided to look at Cudal. The simplicity of check in was amazing and a friendly voice on the other end of the line was a welcome addition. Again, thank you for your calmness! Payment was easy over the phone, no drama. Minutes later our confirmation and key codes were sent. 24 hr check in was one of the reasons we chose Platypus. As soon as we came in the main entrance we we met with complimentary bread, spreads, tea, coffee, cereal, milk, juice and lovely layout of reading material. The room was a small double delightfully decorated. Tea/coffee making facilities with toaster bar fridge and cups/plates and utensils. The bed was super comfy clean and crisp sheets and pillows as soft and comfortable as i have ever had. If we ever find ourselves back this way this would definitely be our preferred place to stop; the cafe was not open and not able to accommodate us for in room service, and we hope to pop in and check out their muffins.

Beautiful clean contemporary rooms in this tiny town. Great coffee and cooked breakfast on the way back to Orange with Bespoke Cycle Tours. Chance to spot a platypus in the creek nearby. Comfortable stay thx

We overnighted in Cudal at the Platapus Accommodation. It was lovely. Best sleep of the holidays! Value for money! Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff were lovely and helpful. And it is super cute and tastefully decorated. Highly recommend! Alie

We had a very brief but very happy stay. Basically beautiful and beautifully simple in the outfit of the room. Crisp white cotton sheets to sleep in makes me very happy. I organised it over the phone at the last minute and Tina made it a very simple transaction. Great value too.
