We came to Cheltenham to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We arrived too early for check in, but left our bags and headed out. We came back for afternoon tea at 1pm and were told that the room wasn't ready and check in was guaranteed from 3pm. That was fine. We enjoyed the afternoon tea although the conservatory was very hot and we were the only ones there so lacked atmosphere. There was a fan that wasn't on, so we requested that be put on, seemingly to the annoyance of the waitress.
3pm came and went. By this time, we felt that we were then just killing time and waiting. After chasing again for access to our room, we were finally given one. I would have thought as we had to wait despite guaranteed check in, and we were celebrating a large wedding anniversary, they may have at least offered us a drink in the bar for the inconvenience - this is after all a 4 star hotel!
Walking down the corridor at nearly 4pm to our room we passed breakfast trays left outside rooms, the hotel offices with a doors wide open, glasses on windowsills, a random hoover outside our room (which stayed the the duration of our stay!) nothing felt luxurious about this.
I would have felt it a nice touch had they just put our bags in our rooms for us too, as we had to wait for check in but that didn't happen either.
The room was tired, bits of lighting taped up, an air-con system that didn't appear to work. Not much better than a Premier Inn - but much more expensive! Really disappointing.
