In general, it is not bad for me to stay in a single room with a common bathroom for 10 nights. Above all, I would like to express my gratitude to the staff's efforts to manage the City Hostel clean which is too old and out fashioned building. * Location & Transportation Without noise, it is the best location to stay. It is located at 2 2-minute walk distance from Attaba subway station that connects to the Ramsis Railway Station and the Egypt Museum, only 1~3 stops away, charging 6 EGP per way. Of course, you can go to both by walk in 20 minutes. It means you can also enjoy the Nile riverside which is close to the museum. And it is a 2-minute walk distance from the Attaba market which is the biggest public market in Cairo and so many locals visit to buy their livelihoods stuff at a cheap price. In addition, you can also walk to the Al Azhar Mosque and Khan El-Khalili traditional market in 30 minutes, and St. Marc Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in AL Azbakeya in 10 minutes Two problems I experienced are firstly the noi⁹sy from 8 am to 3 am outside the building due to market area and cars' horns. It took 3 days for me to adapt it. Any room in the hostel cannot escape it without changing the windows to soundproof ones. If you are sensitive to sound, it is better to find other lodges in a residential area or modernized ones. Secondly, its location on the Uber taxi map and other maps is not accurate, so drivers have some problems in finding the city hostel. I have to meet them in front of the KFC next to the Attaba subway station. The signboard of the hotel is too small to recognize it. * Building and room conditions Like many other buildings in Cairo, the hostel building is old and shabby. The interior design and facilities are also outdated. However, the staff manages it so clean, particularly a common toilet and shower room. It is quite convenient a washstand in each room. However, it is bad there is no electronic kettle to boil water in a room or a common space. I could not enjoy my tea or coffee time at any time. I have to ask for hot drink water every morning when receiving breakfast, and store it in my tumbler. It will be better to provide a tea or coffee service area in the hostel. * Cleanness & Safety Cleanness and safety are very good. I have no issue with this. * Services There is no basic service that most guesthouses provide in general: toilet paper and drink water. Wifi is too weak to use the internet. Other services like laundry are satisfied. * Others During my stay, I couldn't enjoy having an exchange time with other travelers. I think it is because there is no reason to stay in a common space where only sofas and a table are. Largely guesthouse provides a commonplace where guests enjoy better the internet or drinks including tea or coffee and foods, which makes guests meet each other naturally and structurally. In conclusion, if the hostel provides basic services like toilet paper and commonplace with drink water and electronic kettles, it will be much better. And it is necessary to change its signboard so that is more recognizable. Except issues I mentioned above, it is a very good budget lodge.

Cet hôtel se trouve au 5e étage d'un immeuble horriblement dégradé, mais ce n'est rien à côté du comportement du gérant qui nous a reçus, mon épouse et moi-même. Le problème n'était pas qu'il essaye de nous vendre des excursions avant même que nous soyons assis dans le salon où il nous a fait entrer, car ce procédé est très habituel en Egypte. Ce que nous avons trouvé inadmissible, c'est qu'il nous demande de payer plus cher que le prix sur lequel nous nous étions pourtant entendus par mail et, surtout, qu'il nous envoie dans un autre hôtel ENCORE PLUS MINABLE, sûrement parce qu'il a compris qu'il ne nous tirerait pas un dollar de plus. Nous avons dû passer notre soirée de Saint-Valentin dans un bouge sans eau chaude, aux draps mouillés et à la fenêtre qui ne fermait pas alors que ma femme avait choisi un hôtel soi-disant ”luxueux” et très cher (36 dollars au Caire, c'est très cher). Cet homme devrait avoir honte et changer de profession.

Do not stay here. It’s a total mess and a pig sty, I booked a “deluxe double room” that was supposed to be 324 sq feet, what I was assigned was a dingy filthy room at about 130 sq feet. I was promised breakfast is included, it is not. There is no restaurant, no breakfast, no coffee, no room service, no coffee maker in the room, Nada. My booking was supposed to have a washer in room, fireplace, soap, amenities, toilet paper, bathrobe, slippers, sofa, eating area, sitting area, microwave, radio, telephone: IT HAD NONE OF THESE. There was no soap, no toilet paper, no plastic cups, no bottled water. It was so gross that I left after 2 days [I paid for 7] and booked a different hotel. I received no refund. I could not bring myself to take a shower in the filthy disgusting shower. Your better to sleep on the street than to sleep here. There are also loud speakers, just outside the windows, that issue a call to prayer, beginning at 5:30 AM. You have been warned.

The first day we were very tired Khaled welcomed us receptionist and gave us water and juice then guided us to our room, which was overlooking the wonderful buildings and the view of the streets was really amazing the second day we ate breakfast and what caught my attention is the cleanliness of the tools they use in breakfast the whole staff,Wearing a face mask and the service is excellent as for the location of the hotel they were suitable for me a little shopping and buying some things for m... I recommend them

We love this hotel so much! Everything is old and so beautiful! People are very friendly and helpful. Although many problems: no AC in public area, room AC is not enough, shower water is either cold or burning, bed stuff is not clean, but everything is tolerable to us because it’s beautiful here. We especially love the dining room! It’s cozy and comfortable! I wish this hotel would be there after another 100 years and we’ll come back if we are in Cairo. Thank you so much Mr Doss!
