We stayed here 7/1/23-7/8/23. Overall it’s a fine resort but the problem was the beach. If you want a beach vacation this means you should go somewhere else. The positives: - This is a Marriott with high minimum standards. There is a large lobby, there are shops, a coffee and fruit smoggy cafe area in or near the lobby, and the main building is large, - There are several restaurants on site to choose from and the restaurant at the pool is very nice, - I don’t drink but the swim up bar looked like fun, - there is a gym and you can walk around the grounds of the resort for exercise, - there are many beautiful trees and plans and flowers and sea grass, and it is generally a beautiful landscaped property that is fairly large, - we had a 2BR 2 bath unit which was a good size for our family of four, the Wi-Fi was very good , and our unit was neat and clean with 3 working TVs and the AC was good , - the workers for the most part were polite - there were 2 functioning pools - there was a grocery store across the street where you could buy food for the week - cabs came right to the hotel and you could book excursions from the hotel The negatives: - the was a tractor and dump truck working on the beach clearing sea**** all day every day, it was very loud, annoying and you can smell the gasoline; this was NOT a peaceful restful Caribbean ocean beach that I was hoping for, - parts of the beach had so much sea**** you couldn’t walk over it but in some areas you could swim in the ocean but it was NOT clean and clear blue water, my wife said the couldn’t go on the beach because of the gasoline smell, - the workers did not seem clean cut. They had shaggy and scruffy faces and beards and their pants seemed baggy and they didn’t have crisp clean blue Marriott shirt uniforms, - we got a notice from someone saying workers would be coming into the rooms from 10-4 to replace batteries. I said NO WAY because my daughter is in the room alone sometimes , - the lock on our sliding door didn’t work, we had a ground floor unit, it took 2 attempts to fix - in another review that I read I was shocked to see that a worker actually went on a few dates with a guest and the guest (she) complained that the worker actually had another wife or girlfriend and 2 kids - this is UNACCEPTABLE for Marriott, - withe the gym 3 of 5 treadmills didn’t work - one of the pools was closed and taped off, it looks like it has been closed for years - in the courtyard area there were pallets full of what appeared to be plaster - why not keep these inside? It was an eye sore - we did NOT feel safe in the town and the excursions were very expensive - the beach is Atlantic not Caribbean which means it’s not nice - there seemed to be locals and beach merchants walking around the grounds , maybe friends of workers? And NO I do not want some gross guy giving my wife or daughter a massage on the beach Overall I’d suggest you bring your family somewhere else. Marriott Surf Club
