Lovely staff. Hotel badly needs modernising. Tiny tv had annoying buzz coming from speakers rendering it useless for watching anything. The crappy aluminum 1950's window frame was damaged so one side would close and the other had a 3cm gap. The bathroom while clean was very dated with grouting and mastic sealing needing a great deal of love.

Disappointing for a Greene King inn. The room was dated with bare minimum provisions. Bed was comfy though & room very warm. The whole place overall seemed tired and there was a general lack of care or enthusiasm.

Rooms very dated lighting poor and bathrooms like back in the 70,s need to spend on refurbishing and at £80 is too expensive maybe Dads Army liked it but it’s 2023

I was surprised to find the Hotel was run by Greene King. Why? Because it s shockingly dirty, it really needs serious money pumping into it. The walls are damp, the carpets are old and require replacing. The general cleanliness is poor and the bedroom windows and windows in general are a disgrace. Do you have your own in house Group Hotel Inspector? Someone who goes around your establishments, ensuring standards are being maintained and surpassed? I could do that for you and improve the company training of staff. It was so disappointing especially a hotel like the Bell which has bags of history…it’s unique! The staff try hard but with some encouragement and training they could be brilliant! Again, I could help you with that! It does cost, but change is the price of survival. The property needs refurbishing and repairs. Showers in both rooms were not working. Baths were peeling and rusty taps. Windows were rattling and lots of noise coming from the road as windows are not double glazed. First day food was lovely next day poor with most things missing in the meals eg surf and turf we received steak and chips. Beautiful building but needs lots of investment and a good chef that is there every day.

Wonderful staff! We enjoyed eating in the Tea Room when the pub got busy late in the afternoon. They were wonderful! Great Mac n cheese…no….Really!!

Hotel was looking tired and needed updating. Toilet were leaking with urine on the floor and our bedroom tap was leaking. In the bar I asked if I could pay extra for the beer I liked instead of the cheaper beer offered with the meal. He did not know and was of little help. So I told him we would not order and would eat in Weatherspoons instead, which is what we did.

A pleasant place to stay and I would imagine it would be better in the summer. No helped with sll the flooding after the recent rains.
