We had three nights here and couldn't have been made more welcome. The hotel is an undiscovered charm and a breath of fresh air nowadays. No loud music, no modern updates and thankfully no dogs inside. The food throughout the day was excellent but the very best part were the people who ran the place and the location. We will be definitely returning.

Comfortable accommodation with good food in a lovely rural setting. We only stayed one night - room was basic but clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant area - varied menu and food was well prepared, tasty and good value. I would rate it as much better than average 'pub fare'. Breakfast in the morning was good. Staff throughout were attentive and friendly. Overall, very good value and something of a find.

Not dined here for a while but glad to see the food is still excellent. All the people in the group enjoyed their choices mine being a particular fine Cumberland sausage with excellent veg and real chips. Not forgetting a decent pint of Timmy Taylors!

My husband and I stayed for four nights in this lovely traditional British pub. From start to finish of our break we were welcomed into the premises by the lovely owners, staff and locals. We were very comfortable in room three which was very clean, warm and cosy. The food was excellent and we ate there all four nights particularly enjoying the sticky toffee pudding and custard. It proved an excellent location to visit Hadrians wall, in particular the Roman Army Museum which was fascinating, Gretna Green and The Lakes. We also found a dark night location close by where you could access Hadrians wall very easily. We would definitely make a return visit to this charming and very welcoming venue. The Smiths. XX

What a disappointed today, After a walk round Talkin Tarn we walked up to the pub, very quiete it was only 12.20, service good and fast, but oh dear, the food today was definetly not good, we had Scampi chips salad garden peas, The peas were like bullets, definetly not been cooked long enough, Scampi was really over done, it was like bullets rock hard, I left 5 of mine, one I cut in to, bounced on the floor,

A charming pub with a great welcome, thank you Anne! The food is almost all home-made and delicious. We were very well looked after, comfortable rooms. I would thoroughly recommend! Very good value and excellent service.
