CastAway Cabin is unlike any other properties in the area and is situated at the end of the road on a private 65 acre estate located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains This very private getaway is just 25 minutes from Asheville and the Biltmore Estate and 10 minutes from downtown Waynesville. CastAway Cabin is along the elegant/rustic flavor. Just minutes away from Cataloochee snow skiing as well as hiking and fishing. The lawn just in front of the cabin gently slopes to the river just steps from the front porch.CastAway Cabin is located 1 mile from I-40 exit 24 and 25 minutes from downtown Asheville. Take a mere 10 minute drive and enjoy all that downtown Waynesville or Maggie Valley has to offer from fine dining to some of the best breweries in the area. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs all along this area and the cabin is just minutes away from several of its entrances. CastAway Cabin is constructed from mostly reclaimed materials. After a lifetime of tearing down old barns and cabins it was time to put some of the reclaimed wood to good use. The oak logs were all reclaimed from standing dead timber right here on the property. The ceilings throughout the cabin are made from reclaimed beetle kill ash trees harvested just across the river. The flooring is made from 100+ year old reclaimed heart pine. All of the trim work in the cabin is reclaimed barn wood salvaged from local barns that we have dismantled through the years.Fishing in this area is a big attraction so bring your fishing poles and get lost in the beauty of the western North Carolina mountains. Take a short stroll down the front lawn and be fishing within minutes of your arrival or set up a guided float trip or fly fishing excursion with some of our highly recommended local guides.The cabin offers one bedroom with a king size bed and pillow top mattress. We are only 1 mile from I 40 exit 24 and 25 miles to downtown Asheville and the Biltmore estate. You only need to make a mere 10 minute drive to enjoy all that downtown Waynesville has to offer from fine dining to some of the areas best local breweries.This property takes shape after a lifetime of finding old barns and log cabins that were destined to be torn down or even left to rot away. Through the years we have carefully dismantled these structures and saved every usable item we could to try to create something special to us..... and hopefully special to our guests as well. From the antique hewn logs to the reclaimed locust porch posts, rails, and decking this is a uniquely different log cabin that you will have a hard time finding anything comparable. Step inside and feel the antique solid oak hand scraped barn wood flooring under your feet. Enjoy the warm feel of the solid poplar barn wood walls and ceilings mixed with just enough Spanish style stucco to brighten each space you enter. Enter the master bath to the spacious open shower with natural stone walls and stone mosaic flooring. Look above to see the exposed locust rafters and reclaimed beams in the vaulted ceiling. You will more than likely spend most of your time here on the front porch relaxing to the long range mountain views. Watch closely for the huge cranes, hawks, and the occasional bald eagles that patrol the river. With the close proximity to the river you will most likely see some type of wildlife during your stay, there are coyotes, turkeys, groundhogs, deer, bear, squirrels, etc. This property is home to more than 50 head of cattle so no pets are allowed at any time during your stay here. Also no smoking in the house but it is fine to smoke outside on the porch. Hiking season is here and forever memories await at this classic cozy creekside log cabin in Waynesville, NC. Centrally located near Maggie Valley (4 miles) and Lake Junaluska (7 miles) as well as the Great Smoky National Park (8 miles). Various levels of hikes for all ages, shopping, kayaking, excellent fishing, fair grounds, local breweries, kids adventures and so much more are all within reach. Relax after your outdoor adventure with a fire, bbq and front porch swinging while listening to the sounds of the creek flowing next to you all year long. Take a day trip to downtown Asheville which is just a short 35 minute drive (34 miles), or try you’re luck at the Harrahs Cherokee Casino only 30 minutes away (23 miles). All bedrooms and full bath are upstairs while 1/2 bath, dining room, living room, kitchen and laundry are downstairs. There are 6 steps on the porch to the front door as well as 5 steps in the back to access the backyard. Due to parts of the gravel drive being steep, motorcycles are not permitted. 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive may be necessary in winter weather. Driveway has room for 3 vehicles and does not accommodate RV’s, motorcycles, lowered vehicles or trailers of any kind. We have one camera on the front porch and one camera on the back porch both facing away from the house.
