The service and staff here were excellent, but the food service was not up to par with a property at this level and considering this price point. Our room (hot tub suite) was quite dated and could use some cozier touches and more ambient lighting. This is a magical location in Big Sur, so I do hope improvements can be made.

From the moment we arrived to the entrance, it already started with a unique and special welcoming from the staff unlike any other resort we have ever been to. We were greeted and directed us where to go for check in and immediately a golf cart followed us to ensure we were taken care of from parking (we chose to selfpark) to checking in to getting to our room was unlike anything thing we previously expereince. Everything throughout the stay was being communicated just enough without shouting that were celebrating a special birthday occasion yet still delivering the extra touches that made the experience feel special.

If I could figure out and afford to live at this property for the rest of my life I would. Im officially budgeting to come back at least twice a year. 3 nights did not feel like enough. I love Big Sur. My biggest challenge was being torn with leaving the property and exploring one of the most beutiful stretches in CA and leaving one of the most beautiful resorts I have ever been to.

We stayed at Alila Ventana Big Sur Resort from 12/30/23 to 1/2/24 (a 4-day, 3-night stay). The resort exceeded our expectations in all aspects. Bryan greeted us during check-in, and we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a suite even on New Year’s weekend. We arrived at 5:30 pm, and despite the darkness, Bryan patiently explained everything about the resort, walking us to our room and touring the area along the way. At 6:00 pm, we took a shuttle to Sur House for dinner, where we ordered grilled octopus, grilled *****ed bass, and a pork chop. For dessert, we enjoyed tiramisu and pumpkin cheesecake. The service and food quality were top-notch. The next morning, we joined a complimentary 2-hour Coast Ridge Hike with Katty, covering about 5 miles. The hike had a steep incline at the beginning lasting about 10-15 minutes, but it became smooth and easy afterward, leading us to the top of the mountain and back. Despite the cloudy weather, the experience was refreshing and relaxed, with Katty being an excellent guide, sharing interesting insights along the path. Before dinner, we visited the Japanese Hot Spring, an unmissable and wonderful experience. The following morning, the weather was beautiful, allowing us to enjoy breakfast outdoors with a stunning view at Sur House. Once again, the breakfast was exceptional. The staff at this resort are the treasures and reasons to stay, elevating the importance of our visit through their hospitality. We will definitely return in the future.

this is not a big activity resort. they have activities and an excellent spa but its a small resort with only 60 rooms and adults only. get your romance on and chill. do the all inclusive and enjoy the most scenic views in CA. I highly recommend using the room service and do not walk unless its exercise. they have golf carts with drivers.It is expensive but there's value in keeping the noise and people count down. It truly is refreshing and feels like a cruise on land.

We went last weekend for our anniversary. The stay was incredible from the moment we checked in until the moment we left. Everything was exceptional. We had absolutely no complaints. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The views and the property are just amazing. We had read the reviews that the food serving sizes were small. We totally disagree and thought the meals were huge. Also, they offered a number of gluten free options. We will definitely be coming back.

My husband and I have stayed at Ventana three times in the past and have visited more than that to eat at The Sur House and were always impressed with everything but unfortunately, our recent trip (just to stop in for lunch) was very disappointing. Ladies restroom was a mess - toilet paper missing, un-flushed toilet, sink area all wet and no paper towels to dry hands. The chicken tortilla soup was watery and my fish tacos were flavorless. The wait staff was listless and not welcoming. And many of the wood finishes (particularly the butler station) were in desperate need of refinishing and staining. What was good is that the view is still spectacular and we enjoyed our remaining glass of wine on the patio soaking up the salt air. - We had hoped the new management of Ventana would do an even better job than the prior one but alas, that was not the case and at significantly increased room rates since we stayed there, you would think the restaurant would be better than ever, it was not. The Sur House needs to improve their facilities, service and food quality. Thank you.
