東瀉湖飯店(Hotel East Lagoon)

Definitely not a super luxury hotel.But, in comparison with most of other properties in the city of baticaloa, this property, should be One of the most decent properties. Rooms are quite comfortable and well maintained. Hotel also has two pools including a kids pool. Old wing rooms have small balconies from which we can enjoy the sun rise and the view of the batticalo lagoon which the hotel bounded on. Unfortunately, it seems that those balconies have not been cleaned for months and therefore most of them are filled with pigeon poops. Other than that, I have nothing to complain about. Especially reccomended for buisness stays!

This is my second time at East Lagoon and the quality of service has drastically reduced and the hotel isn't maintained well - it's in a run down condition. The rooms were unclean, the washrooms were smelly. There was a dead rat at the elevator entrance. The hotel seems to prioritise weddings/events over in-house guests. Food takes over 1.5 hours to serve, everything seemed so disorganized and chaotic. Overall had a terrible experience. Don't recommend this place to anyone - hoping to check out smaller but clean resorts in Batticaloa next time.

Me and my family came to spend 2 nights here and it was absolutely terrible.The service was horrible, when we went to order the waiter kept running around and there was only one available.The food was disgusting, they couldn't even get the rice and curry right.Their menu is very limited so you don't really get much of a choice.None of the food had flavor which made it really bad.The fried rice tasted like normal boiled rice,literally.The rooms were really hot and me and my family started burning.Some of the lights had been burned, the toilet had a bad smell and the A/C takes at least 5 hours to come to a decent temperature.We had to go out and eat, the food was worse than a good you can find at a small shop along the road.The rooms cost 25,000 lkr for 1 night which was an absolute Ripoff.Don't ever come here.

Zimmer nicht gut gepflegt. Beim Einchecken mussten wir sehr lange warten. Wir hatten kein Toilettenpapier. Handtücher und andere Standardutensilien mussten beim Einchecken besorgt werden. Die Tapete war zerrissen. Aus der Klimaanlage kamen merkwürdige Dinge. Die Zimmertür ließ sich mit dem Schlüssel nicht öffnen und wir mussten jemanden kommen lassen. Sie kannten das Problem und haben uns kein besseres Zimmer angeboten. Wir waren sehr froh, dass wir am nächsten Morgen wieder auschecken konnten.

Beautiful, serene place surrounded by the lagoon. Fantastic view. Situated close to the town. Friendly and helpful staff. Spacious rooms. Good breakfast buffet and choice of food. Enjoyed the stay and boat ride to watch the fishermen at work.

Friendly and helpful staff. Good rooms for the price; modern bathrooms with hot water, good AC, small balconies with lagoon view. Good 3-course dinner. Pool small; on the one hand good (bathrooms with showers) on the other hand restrictive (weird rule about not being allowed to use 'solo if unattended', and no pool towels. Very DISAPPOINTED and BAD Service In case if you are planning to leave from this hotel in late nights, please do NOT depend on ride from this hotel. Here is my experience, I traveled to Colombo, Sri Lanka and reserved the East Lagoon hotel for 2 nights on December 19 to 21. Took the train from Colombo to Batticaloa arrived late night (around 11 PM) on December 19th, where no issues in the transportation from Batticaloa railway station to the hotel, since I hired a tuk tuk from the station (plenty of them available as they wait for passengers from the train). Next day, before I leave from the hotel in the morning I went to the front desk and asked the receptionist (his name is Dhanush) for a taxi or tuk tuk later in the night (around midnight) to catch the train from Batticaloa station (leaving at 1.30 AM on Dec 21, 2023) to back in Colombo. His response was "yes no problem we can call the tuk tuk any time and not an issue". So I trusted his answer and I did my personal visits in Batticaloa and later in the afternoon/evening went for walk in the town. It was a very beautiful experience and enjoyed my short visit to this beautiful city (went after more than 35 years to this city). Later in the evening I came back to my hotel room, refreshed and had a rest for couple hours. Closer to midnight I packed my stuff and went to reception to check out and asked for tuk tuk service. Same person (Dhanush) told me that nothing available and you have to find your own way. I was shocked and replied to him saying that "you confirmed in the morning and now you are saying no", for that he simply said "we can NOT do anything and you can walk from here and catch a tuk tuk near some hospital". Very arrogantly told me and not even apologizing it or didn't find a way to help me out. Simply walked away and he was concentrating on his other work (importantly made sure to get the money from me for 2 nights and gave me the invoice, which I have the scanned copy attached and it has all the times of check in and out). I waited for 5 minutes as I was expecting them to arrange something but no response. So I took a risk and walked away in the midnight (security at the gate was shocked and he tried calling someone and no luck). Please think that I'm going to this town after more than 35 years and everything changed (don't know the streets well too), raining, carrying a big bag, very dark and some areas of the road doesn't have lights, not a straight road to station and plenty of street dogs all over the place (which are very aggressive in the night). Finally took me about 30 minutes to arrive at the station with full of mud on my feet where I stepped in darker areas of the road. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE AND SO PANICKED until I reached the station. If they have told me this response in the morning (when I inquired in the morning for the taxi service later in the night), then I would have pre-arranged through my contacts in the morning or arranged from the town (I saw so man
