卡文迪什飯店(Cavendish Hotel)

Refurbishment an opportunity missed! We have been visiting the Cavendish for many years and so were looking forward to seeing it re-open again after its much anticipated Winter refurbishment. Unfortunately they have missed the mark with this traditional and luxurious hotel. The decor and wider interior design of the lounge would not be out of place in a Brewers Fayre pub, I very much regret to say. The lounge is dimly lit and they have crammed as many sofas and chairs in as possible . The end result is that it looks over crowded and not somewhere you would want to linger over coffee or a cocktail. Or read the newspapers and unwind a little ascthe lighting is so poor. It has the same overall look as the Chatsworth Kitchen restaurant in Rowsley, but what work’s there in a modern, cavernously sized retail space doesn’t work here. Disappointed.

Wir hatten auf der Hotel Webseite 1 Standart Zimmer gebucht. Nachdem keine Bestätigung kam, hatte ich per e-mail bei der Reservation nachgefragt, die Antwort war kurz; alles in Ordnung. Bei unserer Ankunft wusste die Reception im Hotel von keiner Buchung. Uns wurde jedoch ein Superior Zimmer mit Mehrpreis angeboten. Die Mitarbeiterin des Hotels war nicht bereit uns entgegen zu kommen. Das Hotel profitiert von der guten Lage neben Chatsworth. Die Preise allgemein in diesem Hotel für Zimmer, und Verpflegung sind 4* Niveau aber das Hotel ist sehr abgewohnt, daher zu teuer für was es ist.

This hotel was a place my wife had always wanted to stay. I arranged a very special stay for my wife’s birthday between Xmas and new year 2023. Therefore I was expecting incredible attention to detail. Massively disappointed (understatement) pre arranged surprise birthday flowers followed by champagne were no where to be seen on arrival. FIRST IMPRESSIONS and ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS EVERYTHING AT THESE PRICES what ever the occasion. I certainly won’t be staying or recommending. Thank you for spoiling her surprise.

We stayed at the Cavendish for a night away to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The hotel was lovely, but I wanted to highlight the service, which was excellent. We had booked the Kitchen Table, as a treat. But we had some sad news a couple of days before, so didn't feel like the fuss. They were only too happy to move us into the Garden Restaurant, despite it being short notice. They also put us on a nice quiet table. When we left the room, we forgot a handbag. They got in touch, and offered to post it back to us. Really excellent, and much appreciated.

We visited the Gallery restaurant for Sunday lunch today and decided to have a drink in the bar first but we waited over half an hour after we had ordered before we were served the drinks. Most of us had Prawn Cocktail for starters which were very poor and tasteless we also asked for bread, which did not arrive. One had Pumpkin Panne Cotta which was so small it looked like a small sweet on the plate. Starters were extremely disappointing. Main course was OK and dessert was OK but I did not feel that it warranted the £45 price tag and I will not be eating there again.

We had a wonderful two night stay, we stayed in the Phaeton Room, which was spacious, tastefully decorated with everything you could wish for including biscuits and fresh milk in the fridge which were replenished each day. We had dinner in the Gallery Restaurant and the Garden Room restaurant which has fresh produce from the Devonshire estate, cooked beautifully, as was the breakfast. One thing we really liked is that breakfast is served until 12noon everyday! Allowing for a very leisurely morning. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. A bonus was that as guests of the hotel you were able to purchase tickets to Chatsworth House with ‘anytime’ visiting slots. Chatsworth house is a 25 minute stroll from the hotel. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

Very poor restaurant. Food v disappointing. Main course arrived without the gruyere mash! Portions of beef and lamb were miserly and not cooked as ordered. Millfeure was rock hard. Restaurant still has covid screening which spoils the atmosphere. Very expensive given the above.
