Lovely hotel on the river. Located just over the bridge from the old, historic area. An easy walk from hotel to the Christmas markets, restaurants, and shopping. The staff was helpful and nice, and the front desk staff was most accommodating. We loved the pop-up street dining options just outside the entrance. Cable cars and other small, cozy units were brought in for after work noshing and meeting. If you are interested in dining in a cable car which features fondue, make your reservations ahead of time. The hotel was clean. The breakfast was very nice, with a good assortment of eggs, meat, pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juice, etc. The green juice/smoothie brought to the table for each person was delicious!

Hôtel bien situé. Chambre avec balcon et magnifique vue sur le Rhin. Boisson et fruits de bienvenue à l’arrivée. Petits détails qui font la différence, Comme par exemple le tapis de yoga dans la chambre. Jus détox au petit déjeuner. Une partie du riche buffet est proposé spontanément aux clients mais ne traine pas toute la matinée dans les plats. Effet antigaspillage efficace! Bravo!

A very different, quirky hotel. Our room overlooking the river was tiny but the space was used really well. I was happy staying for one night but wouldn’t want to stay longer. We had a tiny balcony with fabulous views but it wasn’t big enough to sit on. Breakfast outside on the terrace was good and plentiful but I don’t think children should be allowed to run around when people are carrying hot drinks and food. Reception was really helpful and friendly.

Went to Basel for the weekend and stayed at Sorrel Hotel Merian. Paid for parking in the underground garage which was very convenient. Breakfast each morning in the hotel restaurant was very good. Had a great view of the Rhine River from our room. Location was good if you like to walk, which we love to do. It was the last weekend of Basel's annual fall festival so the city was full of people and several of the squares around town had rides and booths of food and crafts, etc. Made for a better stay. The only drawbacks were it was a little difficult to reach the hotel as we hadn't checked out the roads beforehand and there was quite a bit of road work going on, and our room was a bit small. Would definitely recommend getting a room with a view.

Just returned from the Sorrell Merian, staying there from Sept26/29, this is a very nice hotel with everything spotlessly clean and typical of a Swiss 4star Hotel, the hotel is situated in a glorious spot, directly on the River Rheine and next to the bridge over the river, the room I had was a good size and was fully carpeted, with a very comfortable double bed, 3seater settee, desk fan, wall lights, Nespresso coffee/tea machine, 32inch t.v.,
